Close to bus station and short walk to metro.
Hotel good for 3 stars. We got a good package deal so we didn't mind that it wasn't a 4 or 5 star. Overall hotel was nice but my wife thought our room could have been cleaner like in the bathroom and carpets maybe needed a good vacuuming. Bed lighting could have been brighter so one could read. Not a lot of space for clothing either.
For me the hotel was fine although it would have been nicer to be closer to Plaza Mayor or La Latina / Huerta districts so one wouldn't need to take a bus but price was great in Expedia package deal.
We really just used the hotel to sleep since we were basically gone every day all day for 16 days straight and returned at like 10pm or later. Hotel was a great deal.
Oh also, Internet was painfully slow but we managed to use a cellphone as a hotspot. We brought IPads to review the many places and things to do in Madrid.

Convenient location. Had a bad encounter with the front desk. She was rude and obnoxious. I asked about a trolley to bring the luggage down. She told me they had no trolley, I told her it was a lie because I had seen one the day before. She then told me I would have to wait until her colleague arrives at 9, because only her one was working. Bad encounters like this can put a bad name in your business. This should have been handled in a more polite manner. I therefore has to drag my luggage down to the lobby.

Let me preface my review by stating that the Pio's location is excellent! It's within walking distance to 2 metro stops & 1 bus stop. This alone opens up a world of possibilities for travelers. We were able to catch trains to Toledo, Salamanca, Avila, etc. every day by riding the metros to either Atocha or Chamartin & catching our trains. There are souvenir shops, restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies & many sightseeing attractions within walking distance too. We were out early mornings & late nights & never felt unsafe. We never had any safety issues. We booked a superior room with a palace view. While we did have a palace view, the room felt small.

This hotel was beautiful! We were greeted with warm smiles and assistance with luggage to our room. The room was stocked full of robes, snacks in the fridge and plenty of soaps/shampoos. I cannot get over how beautiful this hotel was!

South of the centre, Atocha is Madrid’s largest train station with fast trains to Andalusia and, more surprisingly, tropical gardens (with a pleasant café) in the old terminal building. The Museum of Anthropology is opposite and, over the Ronda de Atocha, the Reina Sofia art museum has benefited enormously from a bold, modern expansion. Nearby, Teatro Circo Price is a traditional circus and ideal for children.
