It is refreshing to be able to enjoy a Palace as it used to be. Splendid location, building. Very good service all over. The Goya Restaurant is splendid with 5 stars service. There is no other place I would stay while in Madrid. Highly recommend the Ritz.

People need to understand a good value hotel does not make it to a 4-star hotel. For what I paid for the staying, it has 4 star value, but it's not a 4 star hotel. The location is great. The staff is super nice. It's extreme close to the Renfe station for Eurail trains.

Well this hotel was the second one that I booked, having bypassed it initially as maybe being too pricey. However it was the best thing that could have happened when the first hotel told us their spa would be closed. That was our cue to pay the extra and go with this hotel. We had wanted a hotel with a lovely room, spa facilities, good location, for our special anniversary treat. And boy we certainly got that at Hospes Puerta de Alcala. The whole stay was amazing, the reception staff are wonderful, all of them, they went out of their way to say hello and we're always available to help. Check in was delightful, drinks on arrival and everything in room explained. Location on the Puerta de Alcala is great, thought room may be noisy overlooking this but not at all. Two doors onto balconies to watch the world go by. We were very fortunate to have great weather while we were in Madrid, sunny days, chilly evenings but would certainly go again at this time of year. Sat on the terrace for a meal on the first evening, great service, only negative was lack of wine list. However lovely wine and cocktails. Spent an afternoon in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna. I also took the opportunity to have the free welcome massage, and added it to an aroma massage. Very relaxing, just what I needed. Would recommend. Madrid is a great city and we will be back, didn't see another hotel anywhere on our travels that we would rather have stayed at. City tour is a must. Didn't want to come home.

The hotel was located centrally in Madrid near the metro station and plenty of taxis. We were directly across el Parque de Retiro which was great with the kids. Overall, the rooms were clean, ample sizing, and comfortable. You are in walking distance of all the Museums, Plazas, and plenty of restaurants and bakeries. Also nearby is Atocha station which has the high speed trains which is nice if you would like to go to Sevilla or Barcelona in a matter of a few hours. We rented a vehicle but you could get buy without once plus parking is an issue and expensive.

Next to the broad, tree-lined Paseo del Prado, the new extension at the world-class Prado museum is an architectural triumph. The well laid-out Botanical Gardens opposite the entrance are worth a wander and behind them lies Madrid’s green sanctuary, the Retiro park. Boat on the lake, stroll through the fragrant rose garden, and watch the terrapins sunbathe by the delicate Palacio de Cristal.
