Very comfortable room with a partial view of the Sky Tower. At night, it’s quite incredible all lit up! Staff were accommodating to our late check out request and held our luggage for the day since we had a late night flight. The location is in the CBD, so it’s close to public transportation, restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend!

This hotel has just been through a complete renovation and is just like new.
Everything is very modern as is the design. We were extremely impressed. The rooms are well appointed and all have views to the harbour. We found the room we stayed in was very quiet despite the hotel being central. This is our new favourite hotel in the Auckland CBD.

Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and public transport, especially the ferries for access to some terrific island destinations. The one bedroom apartment suited all our needs and the overall experience was positive.

I've been coming to this hotel for many years, since its original inception as the Duxton. Admittedly this was the first time in a couple of years I've been here but I did adjust my expectations accordingly given that it's an older hotel.
They don't make hotels like they used to with balconies and large spa baths so I was looking forward to a bit of nostalgia visiting the Amora again.
Some changes have been made such as central air con in each room and the current lift refurbishment (which is scheduled to be ongoing for many months yet). However there are also some changes that haven't been made which should have: fraying curtains and rickety ranch sliders.
Apart from the signs of aging the main issue I experienced was a leaking pipe from the spa bath that left the carpet by the bath room soaked. After telling a confused housekeeping staff member who was in the hall about the issue, I advised reception about it who said they'd organise for a blower to be placed in the room while I was out for dinner. I tried explaining that the carpet was saturated, not damp, so a blower won't help. Nevertheless the reception staff member insisted that 'it usually fixes it'.
Needless to say when I got back later in the evening the carpet was still soaked through and I got wet feet in the middle of the night a couple of times when I miscalculated the wet patch.
Wet carpet doesn't smell too great
If I come back again I do hope that it's not in room 617 unless the pipes have been fixed.
