Hotel is located on 40A bus that connects with Schottentor Metro Station. Also One block from D Tram which extends along most of Ringstrasse, passes the Belvedere and ends up at the new Hauptbahnhof. Another tram is located near the top of Strudelhof Staircase which connects with Schottentor. We found several very nice restaurants in the neighborhood as well as several good shops. The breakfast is great.

I had a great experience there. The hotel staff wonderful! I would stay there again. I initially picked it for the price, but the location, comfort level, access to transportation and important sites makes the Hotel Pension Baron am Schottentor a true find.

I was staying while at a conference. I had an attic room on the top floor; it could have been very warm if the temperatures had stayed high and I had to keep the velux windows closed while out in case of rain.
But overall good value for money. Nice staff, very helpful.
The apartments are also very nice - a friend was staying in one.

The hotel is conveniently located, once you figure out that you can "even" take the tram to the metro. The metro is 15 min walk and could be a pleasant one early in the morning as you prepare yourself for the sightseeing. There is a "laundromat" facility 10 min walk away (inexpensive instead of using the hotel services). Two big letdowns: staff is simply unhelpful, one had to keep probing them before they can cough up information. Perhaps, they are overwhelmed - but it didn't appear to be. The second is an "expedia trick" - they sell the hotel at a discount, not clearly telling you that there is no breakfast included and you end up paying more than the regular price if you decide to have breakfast (which is usually convenient for the family when you are in a rush). I think it is more of a scam than a trick on expedia's part - and we have encountered this twice during our trip. Not happy with it at all (costed us Euro 44 in one more case per night). By the way, the breakfast spread is quite good and I do recommend having the breakfast here - unless you want to stop by one of the (many) cafes en route to the metro. If the hotel staff were more helpful, I'd rate this higher.

Home to the Wirtschaftsuniversität, as well as the University of Vienna, Alsergrund also boasts the Sigmund Freud Museum — the area’s chief tourist attraction. Schubert’s modest birthplace lies at Nussdorferstrasse 54.
