After 7 hours of travel we arrived at the hotel. No one greeted us; we stood at the desk for 5 minutes while 3 staff stood there looking very busy on their computers. Once I asked if we could check in the woman was less than friendly about it (but not rude.) Room was fine, finishes were new but already look dated. Who uses gold travertine and medallions anymore? No one refilled our tissues throughout the 3 day stay, hair dryer broke, they replaced it with another broken one after having to ask twice. I travel a lot for work and personal and am shocked to see this hotel has 4.7 stars by other guest ratings. I will say that the room was clean which is most important and the shower was big. Location was 'good' but a lot of transient people hanging out which is typical for Colorado Springs I suppose. Overall our experience at the Mining Exchange was 'eh.'

We definitely enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Flying Horse. The facilities and restaurant are superb. The room was very comfortable and clean. The only drawback for us was the room had a direct view of the parking lot giving it a bit of a motel feel. In fact it felt like it was on the parking lot. Also it would be excellent to have screens on the doors or windows to allow fresh air in at night.

I picked this hotel because it was close to the 2 things we wanted to see in the area - Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and Garden of the Gods. It was a perfect location to access both activities, but it was also pleasantly close to downtown Manitou Springs, which has many nice shops, restaurants and an awesome arcade. There was construction on the street outside the hotel and it was a little annoying getting in and out of the parking lot because of that, but we didn't hear much construction noise in our room. We stayed 3 nights and I would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area.
