Compact, but generally comfortable room with a good shower, bed, TV and efficient air conditioning. Lack of a small fridge is a disappointing oversight; only 1 chair in the room and room safe was locked (so unavailable) when I arrived. Staff on Reception were friendly and helpful.

A little noisy at times with street and neighbour noise. Bathroom walls and door dirty, shower mouldy, room a little dusty and bedside table sporting an old ring mark from a cup. Rooms otherwise comfortable. Bedding above average and beds well made. Close to public transport and Lygon st.

This is a nice hotel not far from city centre. Tram stop outside door. The owner/manager is very helpful and friendly as are the staff. TV in room had some faults and was immediately replaced. Would like to see some breakfast facilities as hotel only has midday and evening meals. Meals are excellent and reasonably priced.

Our experience at the Alston Apartments was fabulous, it's close to restaurants, cinema, shops and public transport. We parked the car on arrival and walked or used the tram. Our room was really comfortable and clean and had all the amenities we required. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. We would recommend the Alston to all our friends and family.

For medium cost accommodation this place couldn't be faulted. Everything worked well and this apartment was clean and the beds were comfortable. The lounge was rather tired and saggy but was adequate. For a short stay

An inner-city suburb, Carlton is known as Melbourne's 'Little Italy.' Lygon Street is the hub of Italian tradition, lined with a plethora of cafés, European cake shops, gelaterias, trattorias, and fine Italian restaurants. The area is also home to well-preserved examples of Victorian architecture and the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens.
