The Hotel Windsor

111 Spring Street, Melbourne - Map
I chose to stay at The Windsor to fulfil a lifetime dream, and also because the party is nearly over for this unique, historic and idiosyncratic hotel. They can't put a wrecking ball through the place because it is heritage-listed, but are about to retain its external facade and gut the interior to make way for a 20-plus story hotel complex. I am assured by staff that the rebuild will be in the style and ambience of the existing hotel, but they can never duplicate or replace the Victorian-era elegance and atmosphere of this grand old lady. Yes, the floors arthritically creak underfoot, there is a gentle mustiness of old age and sensuous languor of wine-induced dissipation. And lacking are some of the glitzy accoutrements of modern 5-star chrome and faux-leather "palaces", which spoilt chou-baby travellers demand and pitifully whinge for nowadays....Blame them! The staff were wonderful, warm and passionate about the jobs they are soon to lose. The dining restaurant, which I reviewed in happier times is now closed forever, one of the truly graceful dining experiences in the world now just a memory, dead but lamented, loved and well remembered. If you are fortunate, the High Tea is still served in all it's white-gloved, Silver-Service style, so enjoy the grand days of the Raj while you can...and bring your camera to record the experience and capture the culture.

"Nice couple of days in Melbourne"
The Langham is a top end boutique hotel in Melbourne. We were in a king suite with a river view that had been recently renovated, and the room was very nice and spacious with a large marble walk-in shower and tub room and large bathroom. The Melba restaurant was reasonably good for breakfast and lunch, but didn't try it for dinner. The hotel staff and the concierge were very helpful and friendly.

"Cosy & Comfortable "
Stayed on a Saturday night in a Standard Double Room. Love the compact space with renovated bathroom. Great for 1 or 2 people staying a night or 2. Easy to find and free parking on weekends. Location is close to the beach and CBD. The accommodation is to be found up a few levels of stairs. No lift. Wasn't a huge problem as we didn't have much luggage. Building full of character and signs of wear and tear. That being said, it's clean, tidy and charming. Staff were friendly. Seems a safe neighbourhood. Non pretentious.

"Great location - bad bed "
Absolutely great location.. it was clean and tidy however our bed had a huge dip on both sides and it was incredibly hard to get to sleep. It seems they were aware of the bad mattress as a piece of foam was laid on top to potentially correct the issue.

"A perfect hotel for short stays"
Comfortable room, only problem could be for older guests is the shower over the bath. Rooms are small but more than adequate, clean with lovely towels and toiletries. Priced at the lower end delivers at the higher. The included buffet breakfast was as good as you'd get anywhere and the gin and tonic from the bar brilliant. Recommend very highly.

"Nice Apartments in a great location"
If you are thinking of staying at Crown think again, these apartments are situated directly behind Crown for a better price. We had a two bedroom apartment with 4 people, it was a bit cozy but big enough for what we needed. The room was generally pretty clean, the view was amazing but would have been better if the windows were sparkling, they were a bit water stained. Otherwise no complaints, would stay there again!

"Pleasant stay ."
We found this hotel to be really well situated for our needs , close to all transport it was easy to get around and see all Melbourne has to offer . The staff at reception were more than helpful . We were not happy with the first room we stayed in as it had no outlook, windows that did not open and a double bed. We were then offered a much bigger room with a view over South Bank , much nicer ! Plus it had a small balcony ......I need fresh air . The decor was pleasing . Thank you so much for that as it changed our opinion of the hotel from not to stay again to would definitely choose this hotel in the future . I would suggest you request a room at the front of the hotel when booking .

Melbourne is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Melbourne, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Melbourne hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
