This is a very good hotel. It is just 5 minutes walk north of Munchener Freiheit transport interchange, that has U-bahn, bus and tram stops. There is also a tram stop right outside the hotel.
The standard rooms are very small, but the superior and executive rooms are excellent, bright, clean and well equipped.
Check in very efficient and friendly, with multi lingual staff.
Breakfast really good. Excellent bufffet but you also can order eggs, ham, bacon.
Our booking contained free mini bar which was well stocked with soft drings and beers.
The only very slight negative we would say is that there were no coffee/tea making facilities in the bedroom

I came with my family and stayed in 2 rooms. Our stay was excellent due to the location of the hotel. It is kind of away from the city center and it gave us a piece of mind. Especially the breakfast next to the river and the park walk.
It was a relaxing stay.

We normally stay at ordinary hotels and ended up picking the hostel based on location and room selection. It was my first stay at a hostel. It was more like a hotel than I expected, yet there are numerous differences. Expect the expected when lodging with unsupervised youths: They were courteous, helpful and noisy.
The staff at the front desk were cheerful and very helpful. There were no towels, soap or body wash supplied with the room, (though towels at least are supplied with some rooms). I was able to purchase inexpensive towels at the front desk. The hostel has its own cafeteria. Breakfast was included with the room. Other meals are also available. There is plenty of parking on Elisabethstrasse adjacent to the hostel. (Parkschein is €6 per day; paid at the machine on the street.)
The bus/tram stop is a short walk away. Bus/tram/U-Bahn tickets/passes are available at the front desk.
While the hostel is convenient to the Pinakotheks, there isn't much within walking distance. There is a gas station across the street. The Cafe Am Norbad, a few blocks away, on Schleissheimer and Hohenzollernstrasse was open when many other restaurants were not. The Cafe is a good place for a coffee, a beer, a snack or even a meal. The Wirtshaus Goerreshof, a few more blocks away on Schleissheimer and Goerresstrasse, is a good place for a beer or a traditional German meal

We booked Thais for a trip to the Munich Christmas markets. We booked a Queen sized room. The room
We got was cramped with a shower and a toilet cubical but no actual dedicated bathroom..it was 'functional'.
A number of the lights didn't work and the lift broken down one evening which was awkward as we were on the 4th floor and I was on crutches due to a slipped disc!
HOWEVER..the lift was repaired by the next morning and having spoken with reception they gave us a room upgrade to the 2nd floor, with a HUGE room and bathroom with a bath! Loved it. Staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful.
Note: the photos of the lobby are very deceptive...it looms large and funky...its tiny and funky!!
I'd go back again BUT would get a larger room upfront and pay the extra!

We have stayed a week in Hotel Lex im Gartenhof. It was OK, very clean and quiet, the staff were very nice. The breakfast was excellent.
But there are two minuses: there is no elevator (there are two floors, so it is not so bad), and they do not change the towels enough, I had to ask for and I received towels that don't absorb.

Schwabing is Munich's social and nightlife hub. Much of the activity takes place day and night on Leopold Strasse, which has the huge Siegestor. Nightclubs are crammed around Wedekindplatz. The city's most popular beer garden is at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden, while further north is Olympiapark, which was built for the 1972 Olympics.
