The hotel gives a distinct feeling because of its historical functions, which the hotel displays with finely crafted exhibitions. It matches quite well with the complex position of the country in the 20th century and the variety of cultures in that city now. It is conveniently reachable from the Amsterdam Centraal by trams. Nice restaurant, too.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel and found it to be clean and comfortable with very helpful and friendly staff. The breakfast has a good variety of both hot and cold foods and sets you up nicely for the day! There is a tram stop just across the road from the hotel for very convenient access to the main areas. The only issue I have is the lack of air conditioning as it was pretty warm and we had to leave the window open at night but at least it's in a quiet area!! Overall we enjoyed our stay in Hotel Tropen

Fantastic little hotel with very easy going staff whom are really friendly and helpful. Room was nice and clean however our bathroom was built into the roof and I'm 6'2 and had troubles fitting into the shower. As well as the shelving below the mirrors is too close to the sink so washing your face is troublesome. Other than this the hotel was great!

The rooms were small but very comfortable, clean and had new comfortable beds! and they had free goodies in the mini fridge! just having a little fridge is such a great thing to have when traveling as well it had modern bathrooms, which were well stocked, clean and the water pressure was great. the rooms had no AC but I did not expect this anyways. The hotel itself is really pretty and the breakfast room is a stunning turn of the century room with a magnificent ceiling and wall décor! worth stepping into this room even if you don't have breakfast! the location is so perfect, right on the tram line and the neighborhood is safe, lovely and very family friendly and easy walking distance to all the major sites. They even had a very sweet cat that lived at the hotel. I will absolutely stay there again and recommend it highly. as well the staff was very friendly. ...

This area is known as Plantage (Plantation) and while its lush parkland has mostly gone, botanical gardens and the small Artis Zoo provide refuge from the hustle of the city. To the north, the excellent maritime Nederlands Scheepvaartmuseum is a reminder of Dutch naval power; to the south the ethnographical Tropenmuseum holds exotic treasures from the Dutch East Indies.
