"Great hotel, great location."
Loved this hotel. From the lobby to the room to the hotel bar the ambience is old world elegance. Every staff member we interacted with was respectful, personable, and professional. Nightly entertainment in the bar is fun and the unique cocktails served there were delicious! Speaking of delicious the room service was excellent, try the lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast. The location of this hotel couldn't be more perfect. It is a reasonable walk from the train station or to the harbor and it appears to be the closest hotel to the SD Civic Theater. As well we walked to The Gaslamp and Little Italy. Great place to stay if you don't have a vehicle to get around town in.

"Good hotel in San Diego Gaslamp district"
This hotel had all the amenities one would expect. The memorabilia was very interesting too. The room enough plugs that were easily accessible so if you have a ton of tech, no problem. The front desk and bell staff were very good. However there was supposed to be a band playing in the bar and they were encouraging people to show up through text. When we arrived the band was late and the staff wasn't terribly helpful. This was just a small thing though. If you wish to be in the middle of everything in downtown San Diego it is a good place. It is very close to Petco and a fifteen minute brisk walk to the waterfront. You can almost throw a rock at the convention centre too. It is close to the Old Town Trolley as well as the light rail.

"Great for a respite trip (but here's some tips)"
For us, there are two types of trips and the kind of trip determines how much we spend on the hotel. There are adventure trips, where the majority of your days will be spent out-and-about (say, at Sea World or something) and then there are respite trips during which the goal is to not do much of anything. For the former trip, we go pretty bare bones; the room is basically a place to sleep. This, however, was a much-needed respite trip, and this place was perfect for that. We thoroughly enjoyed our five-night stay here. The garden lanai room was spacious and we appreciated having both a small breakfast table and a "work" desk under the television. I hate watching television or reading in bed so having a couch and coffee table to do those things on was great. We spent lovely mornings lazing about on chairs under gazebos scattered around the various ponds on the property or "our" seats on the back patio (we were only four feet away from one of the smaller pools; however, there were privacy bushes). The staff was attentive and friendly. One really felt pampered thanks to little amenities, like being able to call up a golf cart to take you to the resort's market or have pizza delivered right to the room. You get a coffee maker and a mini-fridge, so we could save money with a short trip to a nearby grocery store and just eating cereal, fruit or pre-made salads in the room for lunch and breakfast. We're happily childfree but the families didn't bother us at all.

"Great location in the Gaslamp District "
Only a one night stay but this hotel is really cool and has a lot of character. Rooftop was sweet with great views, if only there was a bar up there. Luckily there's a liquor store nearby so you can throw your own soi·rée in a pinch! It's also a quick walk to countless bars and restaurants. The location is superb to say the least. A buddy and I got the queen bed suite which had a cool living area and a kitchenette. Even the sofa bed was pretty damn comfortable. Would definitely recommend for a short or long stay in San Diego.
