"Happy we chose the Intercontinental one more time"
Service is exceptional, even when they’re at full capacity due to the Festival of Lights. We’re glad that we chose the intercontinental, it’s privileged location in downtown Chicago provided convenient access to the Magnifocent mile, Navy pier and some cool paced that my wife knows.
This hotel faces Chicago's Magnificent Mile; Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and the John G Shedd Aquarium are within a mile.More
This is my first bed & Breakfast experience but I doubt it will be topped. This retreat has a convenient location in Galena; about a 10 minute drive from main St without all of the hype of the main street hotels.
We stayed in the house which has 3 Guest bedrooms, the main eating area & kitchen and the main office. The room we stayed in was comfortable, nice sized and soft bed and conveniently attached bathroom. My only gripe with the bedroom is that there's no way to control the temperature. It's regulated at about 72-74 degrees even overnight. Typically, I don't sleep with the heat on because that makes me hot overnight which interrupts my sleep. I tried opening the windows but they were like screwed shut. So other than sleeping in a hot box, the room was ok.
Breakfast us where this place really scores! The couple who owns this are very pleasant, nice and helpful. The husband can COOK SOME BREAKFAST! The first morning of our stay, we had these warm, soft buttermilk biscuits, cheesy scrambled eggs and sausage patties. EVERYTHING on that plate was good! Second morning, perfectly cooked pancakes with a blueberry drizzle and sausage links. Also perfection. This place is DEFINITELY worth a stay. I hope they fix that window thing by the next time I return.

The room is lovely. Not the average room. There are horizontal shelves on the wall with real books stacked. The lamp and shade are rectangular. The bathroom door slides, as does the closet door. Things are tucked into the closet out of sight. The desk and dresser and all connected with an interesting asymmetrical desk top. The common areas are so nice, we hung out in the lobby more than once. There was fresh cool lemon water and a really warm fireplace with a selection of all types of seating. The restaurant in the lobby was nice with a good menu. Relaxing choice for us because it was pouring rain.
There is a really cute Starbucks inside, too.
