Why rent a car in Jacksonville?
Do you need a car in Jacksonville? Definitely. At over 800 square miles, it's the largest city in the continental US, plus there are some great day trips within easy driving distance. Head to the coast for white-sand beaches, charming island communities and fascinating historical sites.

Where to go in Jacksonville
Where do you start in a city this big? Downtown has interesting museums like the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, Museum of Science and History and Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art. Fun neighborhoods to explore include Riverside and San Marco Square. Directly east of town and just a half hour drive, Jacksonville Beach (AKA Jax Beach) has gentle surf and beautiful beaches. If you're up for a day trip, drive an hour south to St. Augustine, the oldest permanently occupied settlement in the US. Or head northwest to Amelia Island, a quaint locale with a fine sense of history itself.

Getting around Jacksonville
Start with a good map, or even better, a GPS. You'll need it to navigate. Be aware that while Interstate 295 circles the entire city, I-95 cuts right into downtown. The good news? Traffic is surprisingly reasonable for a large city. Downtown has plenty of garages and enough metered parking to accommodate all the cars. Meters are free after 6pm and on weekends.

Jacksonville car rental locations
All the major rental agencies can be found at Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), as well as at locations around town. Wherever you pick up your car, you’ll get a great deal on your Jacksonville car rental from Hotwire.
