At 840 square miles, sprawling Jacksonville is the largest city in the continental US. Despite its size, it's not exactly jam-packed with things to do, but there are enough worthwhile diversions to keep you happily occupied. Most of the action centers around downtown, and the white sands of Jacksonville Beach are just 17 miles away.
Museums lovers can get lost in the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, or the ultra-modern Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art. Got kids in tow? Treat them to a day at the Museum of Science & History. Or, if everyone is over 21, go for a tour and tasting at the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser Brewery.
Downtown's Jacksonville Landing has a good selection of shopping and entertainment options. Or, for upscale dining, head to the Riverside neighborhood or the artsy San Marco Square (modeled after Venice's Piazza San Marco). Want to work in a little history while you're there? Jacksonville is an ideal base for day trips to historic Amelia Island or the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve.
