The Sofia Hotel - San Diego Hotels

The Sofia Hotel

150 W Broadway, San Diego - Map
We have stayed at The Sophia several times over the last few years. The location is perfect for us. Located downtown across from Horton Plaza and a quick walk to the Santa Fe Station. Perfect middle to Gaslamp & Little Italy. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. The hotel is clean and charming. My only concerns are the rooms are starting to show wear. We stayed in a suite this trip for two nights. Nothing special other than a larger accommodation. However, the paint, the wood trim, and surfaces all need touch up and attention. The linens and bath amenities are good. Room d├ęcor is nice. Other than that, no complaints...

"Older hotel with lots of character "
Hotel was older with lots of character. Has the potential to be great with a little more TLC. Great balcony off room, was nice for drying out beach suits and gear. Walls are thin and we disturb guests next door while watching the Olympic's when we got in late/early morning (not very loud mind you) Parking is limited so be prepared to do some light walking. Close drive to beach and USS midway. Close drive to Richard Walkers Pancake House, wonderful breakfast, must try if in the area.

Urban Boutique Hotel

"Right in the middle of everything!"
The hotel is NOT fancy, at all. But it is clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I WILL stay there again when I go back to San Diego. It is in the middle of Little Italy. One block away there are so many awesome restaurants that there is no way you can try them all without spending a month there! The hotel rents bicycles for $10 A DAY! Every Saturday there is a fantastic farmer's market, just down the street. The breakfast is simple, but good: fresh fruit, yogurt, mini muffins, croissants, breads & granola. The only drawback is the construction right next door. And by right next door, I mean right outside my window - so from my side of the hotel there is zero view. They start work every morning at 7:00 a.m. BUT - the positive aspect of that - it got me up and out to do my sightseeing in a timely manner. :-) I did not go on my vacation to sleep! It is well within walking distance to any and all of the transit stops that you need to get everywhere, including Tijuana. Again - not fancy. If you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. But if you are looking for a good place to lay your head at night, that is close to everything, this is the place you want to stay.
