"Favorite hotel "
This was my second stay at the Heathman and I was delighted for the second time. Everything was great, the room, the staff and the location. The only bad thing was that the excellent restaurant was closed, but that is only temporary.

"A great hotel in the Portland area."
From check-in to checkout, it was a great experience. They have one of the better complimentary breakfasts that we've encountered in our travels. Just a great place all around.

"Nice location, more affordable "
This hotel is tucked into a corner of the Portland State U campus just a few blocks from the river walk and very close to the Portland Art Museum. It's about a 10-15 walk to the downtown attractions, and the walk is pleasant. a variety of restaurants and shops are nearby. The hotel is modern in style, the rooms are snug but well-appointed and comfortable. Facilities are very clean. Staff is highly professional and efficient. Valet parking is $35 per night, but if that's off-putting there are garages within a block that offer a lower rate for self-parking. The hotel has a nice courtyard area and a restaurant (which we did not try) with a full bar (which we did try). Be aware that the rooms are a little noisy - muffled conversation and noises from adjacent rooms is noticeable and some rooms overlook the courtyard seating, which was noisy in the evening due to the glorious weather during our stay. If absolute quiet is key, then you may want to ask for an end room away from the courtyard.

"Nice, clean and friendly hotel"
This hotel was nice and clean. They seem to be making many updates and improvements which I'm sure will make the stay even better. But what really made my stay enjoyable was the first impression made by the sweet check-in employee that assisted us at nearly 1am.

    Explore Portland

So hip it inspires parody, Portland has become synonymous with alternative cool. Fortunately, the left-of-center attitude, dedication to green spaces and off-the-charts-amazing food and beer that draw people here keep getting better. Do your part to keep it weird by eating maple bacon doughnuts one minute and cheering on naked bike riders the next.

But Portland is more than just an urban freak fest. Head to the Pearl District where young professionals sip happy-hour cocktails next to boutique art galleries, or stroll Forest Park and the city’s famous rose gardens. Just outside city limits is the Columbia Gorge, a magical, moss-covered fairyland of massive waterfalls, walking trails and vistas over the mighty Columbia River. Slightly farther, pyramid-shaped Mount Hood beckons skiers, hikers and anglers.

Yes, it rains a lot in winter, but with an abundance of second-run movie theaters, live music venues and Powell’s Books (the world’s largest independent book store), there’s plenty to do. Summers are glorious – you’ll see lots of tattoos when the hibernators emerge to enjoy the weather.
