"Portland Industrial District"
Tucked away in a residential area of the Portland industrial district the Northrup Hotel is a boutique style facility designed for the urban traveler. Close to restaurants, coffee shops, and several neighborhood grocery stores, the Northrup offers an unique hotel experience. Request a room on the north side as the commuter train runs a scheduled out the south side. The complimentary breakfast is adequate, but falls short of memorable. Most of all units have kitchens so beware of unsolicited cooking "smells" lingering in hall ways and making their way to you room. Somewhat of a turn off. If your travels take you to this area of Portland and you what to try something a bit different, then my all means give the Northrup a shot.

"Okay for this price"
Overall a big hotel in Portland, but restroom is really small compares to the size of the hotel and room (make me feel like I'm in Tokyo or Asia). Hotel staff in the lobby is very friendly, room is clean but bed is not so comfortable and makes sounds whenever I move. Room does not have shampoo and shower gel the first night I stayed but they gave me 1 bottle of water as VIP member. 2nd day they will not give me any water when I asked for it and asked me to get it from the mini frig, kind of weird. For this price I think the hotel is acceptable since the location is great and price is at least 1/2 of others.

    Explore Portland

So hip it inspires parody, Portland has become synonymous with alternative cool. Fortunately, the left-of-center attitude, dedication to green spaces and off-the-charts-amazing food and beer that draw people here keep getting better. Do your part to keep it weird by eating maple bacon doughnuts one minute and cheering on naked bike riders the next.

But Portland is more than just an urban freak fest. Head to the Pearl District where young professionals sip happy-hour cocktails next to boutique art galleries, or stroll Forest Park and the city’s famous rose gardens. Just outside city limits is the Columbia Gorge, a magical, moss-covered fairyland of massive waterfalls, walking trails and vistas over the mighty Columbia River. Slightly farther, pyramid-shaped Mount Hood beckons skiers, hikers and anglers.

Yes, it rains a lot in winter, but with an abundance of second-run movie theaters, live music venues and Powell’s Books (the world’s largest independent book store), there’s plenty to do. Summers are glorious – you’ll see lots of tattoos when the hibernators emerge to enjoy the weather.
