I made a mistake when I booked this hotel. I thought it was in the Hotel Zone in Cancun. When I arrived at the airport, I was told I had to take a ferry to get to the hotel because it is on an island off the coast. That was a shock but I can tell you it turned out to be a good mistake. The island of Isla Mujeres is perfect. Even though it did not have the big city dance clubs we wanted to go to, the place is great. You can rent a moped or golf cart and drive all over the island. It takes just 30 minutes to drive from one end to the other and the scenery is beautiful.
We did take the ferry back to Cancun to spend the day on the beach in the Hotel Zone. It was a horrible experience. The beach in Isla Mujeres is MUCH nicer. Also, we got hustled by a police officer. He tried to arrest us for drinking on the beach and then took us to an isolated area and told us we had to pay him $600. I gave him all the money I had (around $150) and then had to plead with him to leave me with $10 so we could buy a ticket for the ferry to get back to Isla Mujeres. Needless to say, I hate Cancun and I hate the reprehensible, scum sucking, dishonest police. Mexico and the Mexican people should be embarrassed that this disgusting practice is allowed to happen. That being said, I put that behind me and enjoyed the great hospitality, terrific food and wonderful accommodations of the Privilege Hotel.

The hotel is close to the ferry and felt very safe. It is clean and modern. Spacious room. Good linens. Cool pool. Friendly staff. Fresh water-hot for tea and cold for drinking and refills. Wifi offered but kind of weak. Highly recommend, especially for the price!

I was GRANDPAcking in Isla Mujeres for 7 nights.
I am travelling on a budget and this was the only Hotel available in September with a Double (Fan) Room with Private Ensuite for under MXP600 / night. I paid a discounted rate of MXP470 / night. I believe that I got a 42% discount.
I arrived at the Marcianito just before noon to find my check-in paperwork ready and waiting for me on the counter. The receptionist spoke minimal English but that wasn’t a problem.
I found my own way up the stairs to my room on the 3rd floor.
The room was ‘snug’ but well thought out so it didn’t feel too small.
It had a small fridge, wardrobe, and cable TV.
TIP: Unless you speak good Spanish, getting a room with Cable TV in Mexico is a waste of time … yes, you get up to 100 channels … but all of them are in Spanish or ‘dubbed’. You might find 1 English speaking channel. This is, usually, the Golden Edge Movie Channel. You are better off paying less for a room without a TV but with good WiFi – so that you can stream things off the internet.
The ensuite was small but sufficient. The shower had good pressure and hot water.
The Hotel is situated just off of Hidalgo near the Terrazo Bar; this bar plays live 'rustic' mexican music until 11pm most nights ... but I didn't find that a problem.

Hotel and staff were excellent. Only issue was the Expedia staff were involved in the booking. Expedia failed to help after booking an early morning flight out of Cancun whereas we couldn't secure a ferry off the island other than 6 hours ahead. We had to secure a second hotel room the night before to catch our flight home.

After flying into Cancun, you take a taxi to Puerto Juarez, board a ferry for a 20 minute ride to Isla Mujeres. Once you arrive on Isla Mujeres you take a 5 minute taxi ride to Mia Reef. Your taxi will eventually take you over a wooden bridge, over the Caribbean Ocean, out to the Mia Reef. It is stunning!!

The room was clean and roomy. The bathroom and shower was large and nice. We had a balcony over the street which was nice any time of the day or night. The main problem was that a sewer gas smell was present a lot of the time! The maid would mask it when the room was cleaned, but it would return.

Accessible by ferry, Isla Mujeres is a major ecotourism destination. El Parque Natural Garrafón (Garrafón Natural Reef Park) features coral reefs inhabited by schools of fish. Giant sea turtles come ashore at Tortugranja to lay eggs. North of Isla Mujeres, thousands of rare and tropical birds roost at a natural sanctuary on Isla Contoy.
