"Enjoy Hawaii's natural setting and hospitality"
We arrived at the Inn late on a dark rainy night and were greeted by Irene. In no time she had us settled in our cheerful and comfortable room. We fell asleep listening to the chirp of tree frogs and awoke to a crowing rooster. Looking out one of the large windows in our spacious room, we saw what we had missed in the dark -- a welcoming contrast to the looming and desolate lava beds less than an hour's drive away -- a thriving macadamia grove, bountiful fruit trees, lush Hawaiian flora and a herd of contented sheep grazing in a sea of green. We wandered downstairs and enjoyed a relaxing breakfast with an eclectic group of international travelers. The meal literally included the fruits of Irene's labor as well as fresh eggs that her happy hens provided willingly and abundantly -- including one's attempt in the trunk of our car! Within less than an hour's drive, you can visit tide pools, robust waterfalls, gushing lava flows, the museums and offerings of Hilo and experience moments of quiet reflection while hiking. We spent the last two days of our memorable Hawaiian vacation at Lava Tree Tropic Inn and I can honestly say we ended on a high note. Don't expect the convenience of an all-inclusive resort or an all-you-can-eat buffet -- please just appreciate the simple concept of a bed and breakfast with genuine hospitality and camaraderie. We would definitely return!

"Rustic and Relaxing"
This is a very rustic experience... not at all like staying in an all inclusive resort on the white sandy beach. It was, however, just what I was looking for for my first trip to Hawaii. Our room was big enough to accommodate two twin beds and a table and was basically open air with solid wall 4 ft up and screen the rest of the way. Curtains provide privacy if you feel the need. This is the very basic accommodation. There is an open community kitchen and three centrally located bathrooms with shower facilities. Cabana style community dining and conversation area, beautiful yoga and meditation facilities all on about 10 acres of native fruit trees and a new greenhouse which will allow the "farm to table" experience in a vegan, gluten free kitchen. Breakfast and dinner were available for a fee. There are more luxurious options for cabins which are much larger, tucked away in the jungle atmosphere or with an ocean view, and some have their own bathroom facilities so providing more of the amenities. Lots of local tourist stuff to do during the day and you will be sung to sleep by quoqi frogs and share space with geckos and the occasional wild pig...all in all, a perfect, relaxing vacation spot!!

"Superb"
We've been in Maui/Hawaii for over two weeks now, staying at a variety of B&B. This is easily the best one: Cindy is just the most perfect host, she's kind, caring, attentive, yet discreet. The care and love with which she prepared the room for us, with such attention to details like toiletries, books, coffee and tea capsules for the coffee machine, microwave & minifridge, beach towels/snorkels/cool box/beach chairs...and the list goes on. Her breakfasts are delicious and varied. I mentioned I have oatmeal and eggs for breakfast and she prepared them for me every morning. My husband likes English breakfast tea (she has a huge selection of organic teas but didn't happen to have exactly that) and she got it for the next morning. The bed is very comfortable. The grounds are lovely and in immaculate conditions. What can I say - a true gem.

"Very comfortable B&B"
Enjoyed the stories and hospitality of the hosts Jim and Jim. The facility was very clean and spacious. We only stayed one night and wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area. A great breakfast was provided using papaya and other fruits from the back yard. Enjoyed being serenaded by the coqui frogs at night. Felt like being in a jungle.

"charming host and wonderful peaceful location"
Petra was a great hostess and wonderful breakfast cook. She provided a map and ideas on where to spend our free morning in the area. The facilities are beautifully landscaped (looks like a park!). Look forward to returning the next time we are in the area. Free wifi helped me get some work done.

"Superb Ocean Side cottage close to Lava flow "
A fine gem situated at the eastern edge of the Volcanoes National Park. Provides best access to hike to lava flow 61g. Owners Mark and Raven were delightful hosts. Excellent breakfast and coffee prepared daily- fresh fruit, eggs, omelette, tortilla, outstanding coffee. Mark knows this part of Big island like the back of his hand, provided excellent ideas guide on how to explore the area. Raven took care of breakfast and helped me with my laundry after being soaked in a night hike. The house is decorated with a wonderful tasteful touch- lots of Polynesian, Asian and African artifacts. The property borders onto a small lava field and a black sand beach. It's wonderful to hear the waves at night and see the sky and horizon in the morning.

Pahoa is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Pahoa, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Pahoa hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
