There are an increasing number of hotels around nowadays that say that they are dog friendly.....when in reality, they are not. The Watershead truly is dog friendly (with a supplement for the dog in your room) with water bowls, treats, towels and a comfy dog bed provided in the room. The hotel is also welcoming for your dog to join you in the restaurant for all meals. The hotel overlooks the Ambleside end of Lake Windermere and this is great for a dog walk of even letting you dog do it's business as there is also a park opposite. I only had breakfast at the hotel, but this was 5 out of 5. Every member of staff was polite and helpful. The only very minor point to not give full marks was that the hotel is not brand new and therefore not as clean as the newly refurbished/built ones. However, the hotel is certainly not dirty and meets my cleanliness standard easily. I can fully recommend this hotel....especially if you want to to bring your dog to enjoy this beautiful part of the lake district.

This is a wonderful example of a real country inn, with old fashioned hospitality, very good food and a great location. It is a few miles off the motorway, but we decided that 10 moles or so was well worth it for a mid trip overnight stop. What a great choice. The rooms are a bit out of date, and the bathroom was less than we would have hoped for, but the rest of the facilities, including a separate lounge for guests (rather than having to sit in the bar of the pub) were fine. We had dinner at the restaurant - an excellent hotpot medley of lamb, beef and pork full of taste and well served. Breakfast was equally well prepared (our choice of full English breakfast) and good prompt service.

Hotel was Great, good location, amazing views and staff were very friendly & helpful. Food was good, no baked beans with a fry up my only qualm.
It was quite hard to find the hotel as it is off the beaten track and no signs so in the dark it was difficult.

Eden Valley really is Cumbria's hidden gem. Rolling meadows and quiet country lanes weave through quaint villages, creating landscapes of breathtaking beauty. Situated on the path of Hadrien's Wall, Carlisle is a lively city, and a great location for exploring the surrounding fells. A wealth of historical landmarks lie on its doorstep, including the well-preserved Carlisle Castle and the Citadel.
