"Lancaster House"
I stayed in a junior suite and the room was beautiful. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the food. i would definitely stay here again but I wouldn't eat here in the restaurant in the evening. The breakfast was nice and on a par with Premier Inn breakfast. It's not close enough to walk out to other bars or restaurants to eat. I also think that the check in is a little late and the check out is a little early, I would like an hour extra on both.

"Lovely traditional hotel with fabulous views"
Apart from the check-in that was not particularly friendly and welcoming, the hotel was very comfortable and enjoyable. The dinner was excellent if a little expensive but overall it was a pleasant stay.

"Very nice hotel next to the cruise spot"
Right next to lake cruise port and town. I prefer on site hotel parking rather than the valet parking (£20 per night) a few mins walk away. Restaurant and lobby rooms have nice view of lake Windermere. Outdoor garden area with lake view with chairs and tables. No AC on our room, but a desk fan provided in wardrobe, can open window. Excellent and helpful staff.

"Lovely place to stay "
Great hotel. Had some problems getting the room originally ordered with a view. Had to move on 2nd night after argument that a view of a car park was not in line with what had been promised at booking. Restaurant expensive but excellent although limited - to be expected from such a small hotel. Would visit again but would need reassurance that booking and actuality matched.

"Nice hotel halfway between Windermere and Bowness"
Situated at the top of a steep hill as the name implies, first impressions of the hotel were very good. Nice easy check-in although we were led to believe that the newspaper service was complementary as there was no mention of an additional fee (only realised when it came to check out that they charged us £4.20 for 3 papers). Not many of the rooms have a view of the Lake but this didn't really bother us as we got to see plenty of it on our travels. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the room. Breakfast was nice and I enjoyed the full English. The waiter (male) wasn't particularly welcoming on our first breakfast at the hotel which was disappointing. Not a massive choice of continental options either. We were also surprised to find the fire exit door (situated next to our hotel room) open when we returned from breakfast on the second day and it was still open when we returned from our outdoor walking adventure in the evening! When it got to 9pm I ended up closing the door. We felt this was pretty poor of the hotel in terms of safety standards. Also our tv had poor signal on the second night (no access to BBC 1 or 2). Overall we were reasonably satisfied with our stay. I think at half the price we would be very happy with the stay but as it really wasn't cheap we expected it to be much better.

"Pleasant Hotel Near Grasmere Village"
We had a very enjoyable stay at the hotel once the room we were first allocated was changed. The first room we were given was small with no outlook but a wall, but the worst thing about it was a generator noise of some sort, never ending drone, which kept me awake all night. Next morning asked to change rooms. The lovely receptionist was so apologetic and eventually managed to get us a much better, bigger with a garden outlook. We then had a lovely stay. All the staff were pleasant, helpful and very friendly. It is because of them that the hotel has a decent rating. Plenty of free parking, free wifi, breakfast was good, dinner was Ok but not a fine dining experience. You can walk into Grasmere Village quite easily from the hotel. It's an old building with a 'country house' decor, so if you like modern furnishings, don't choose this hotel.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
