"Great friendly hotel in a great location."
A friendly welcome greets you at the hotel. Everything is explained about the hotel and puts all worries at ease. The room we stayed in had great views down the valley and was very spacious, fresh cake each day in the room was a very nice touch. Bathroom was very well presented and shower was very refreshing. They have a book in the main lounge with plenty of walks around the area with detailed instructions making them easy to follow. With access from the back of the hotel straight onto several walks made the whole experience very stress free with it being our first time visiting the lakes and wanting to do several walks. Breakfast was lovely each day with plenty of choice. It is easy to get into Ambleside which has plenty of places to eat, Nanny Brow send you a great list of restaurants they recommend, which has a variety of options. I would definitely stay at Nanny Brow again and would recommend it to anyone.

"Older Couple on a short break"
We enjoyed 2 nights at the Swan in spite of the rain and wind. Our room with a king size bed was very comfortable and well heated; it felt luxurious. There were at least 3 separate lounges in the public area so that we did not feel we were crowded. In the bar a roaring fire provided a foal point. We enjoyed the full English breakfast. The staff were very friendly

"Lovely place"
Stayed here for two nights whilst attending a wedding at Silverholme Manor close by. The staff were excellent as was the food. The room was comfortable and compared to other places locally reasonably priced.

"Average hotel, too expensive for what you get"
Bathroom heating wasn't working, and although it was an easy fix (radiator just needed to be bled) staff did not care to solve it in 3 whole days. Location was good. Facilities in the room and throughout the hotel disappointing - the closet was very limited. Breakfast is good enough.

Brathay Lodge

Rothay Road, Ambleside - Map
We like the cosy feel of the attic room and the tranquility. The staff who received us (Tiller?) was most helpful. Our only woe is the steep climb up the stairs. Haha. But overall we are impressed with the lodge.

Sawrey House Country Hotel

Stones Lane, Ambleside - Map
"Next to Hill Top"
A very pleasant couple of days in the Lakes, in Beatrix Potter country. Lovely walks and views, of hills, tarns and Windermere. The breakfast settings were very good, with a wide range of different options, the cooked breakfast was freshly cooked to order, and very well presented. The evening meals were also well presented, well cooked, and fresh. The Chef has a skill for interesting combinations which we enjoyed. Local produce was used extensively, and there were some very tasty cheeses. Buses go from near the hotel to Hawkshead and Bowness ferry during the summer.

"Nice View and surronding"
It was a nice place to stay. The view and surrounding was excellent . But I would not say same about the hostel. The room was Okay. Bed sheets and mattress looked new but carpet was pretty bad shape. The gallery was smelling rotten dust bin where we couldn't stand for a minute but yes Bathrooms were neat and clean which was the most important thing. So it depends what is important for you . I would say staff could be more helpful and polite . One of the guy at reception was little rude.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Ambleside hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
