"Great hotel in Windermere"
We stayed for 7 days and found it very comfortable. There was a great range of breakfast food and drink available and all food was of a great standard. When asked advise about walks the owners were very helpful and let us borrow maps and guides

"Peaceful, friendly and picturesque hotel"
Tucked away but close to everything, this pretty little hotel is well cared for with attention to detail. All of the staff we met were lovely.

"Wonderful setting for a country house hotel"
The hotel grounds are superbly managed, the location with views over Lake Windermere are breathtaking in the sun and fairly impressive if it's overcast. The bar, library and lounge rooms are delightful and both restaurants are welcoming - never too busy, despite the hotel apparently being full; the staff are attentive and knowledgeable about the local area and beyond, or if they aren't they swiftly find one who can assist. The food was very good at all times. All in all, we had a highly impressive view of the main hotel and its facilities, only our room let down the overall experience. We knew our room was standard before we arrived, as I had been told on the phone prior to arrival "you're only in one of our standard rooms" which registered as a bit of a slap! We saw plenty of the luxury rooms during our stay and they are also very impressive. The difference in price between the flagship and standard rooms is frankly unreasonable and the standard rooms should be a lot cheaper in comparison. Ours was drab, small, with outmoded furniture that had seen better days. Comfy bed, mind you, so not all bad once you had your eyes closed. On a very pedantic point, the supplied toiletries are not great quality, so bring your own shampoo and conditioner, ladies! However, all that said, the hotel is very impressive overall and we would stay again, although we would want to be sure it was in Rooms 1-11. If those standard rooms were priced more reasonably, it would be superb for all.

"Nice hotel -watch out for credit card charges"
I would have given this hotel a superb rating if it was not for the nickel and dimeing of the management. I know it's a little thing but it really got up my whatsit, on check out they charged me a $5 fee to use my credit card to pay for extra's. now for $25 add on $5 that is exorbitant. Having said that it's a nice comfortable hotel, the restaurant provides great food and service. Parking is a bit tight but it works welll enough.

"Pleasant Hotel Near Grasmere Village"
We had a very enjoyable stay at the hotel once the room we were first allocated was changed. The first room we were given was small with no outlook but a wall, but the worst thing about it was a generator noise of some sort, never ending drone, which kept me awake all night. Next morning asked to change rooms. The lovely receptionist was so apologetic and eventually managed to get us a much better, bigger with a garden outlook. We then had a lovely stay. All the staff were pleasant, helpful and very friendly. It is because of them that the hotel has a decent rating. Plenty of free parking, free wifi, breakfast was good, dinner was Ok but not a fine dining experience. You can walk into Grasmere Village quite easily from the hotel. It's an old building with a 'country house' decor, so if you like modern furnishings, don't choose this hotel.

"Nice hotel halfway between Windermere and Bowness"
Situated at the top of a steep hill as the name implies, first impressions of the hotel were very good. Nice easy check-in although we were led to believe that the newspaper service was complementary as there was no mention of an additional fee (only realised when it came to check out that they charged us £4.20 for 3 papers). Not many of the rooms have a view of the Lake but this didn't really bother us as we got to see plenty of it on our travels. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the room. Breakfast was nice and I enjoyed the full English. The waiter (male) wasn't particularly welcoming on our first breakfast at the hotel which was disappointing. Not a massive choice of continental options either. We were also surprised to find the fire exit door (situated next to our hotel room) open when we returned from breakfast on the second day and it was still open when we returned from our outdoor walking adventure in the evening! When it got to 9pm I ended up closing the door. We felt this was pretty poor of the hotel in terms of safety standards. Also our tv had poor signal on the second night (no access to BBC 1 or 2). Overall we were reasonably satisfied with our stay. I think at half the price we would be very happy with the stay but as it really wasn't cheap we expected it to be much better.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
