"Beautiful beach, not much nightlife."
The beach was fabulous, the water is fantastic. The staff was super friendly. Nice hotel for those seeking to relax. If you like a little more excitement (night clubs, casinos, shopping, etc.), you will probably be bored, and getting on and off the island is a bit complicated, as they only have small boat service coming back and forth from the mainland.

"Still getting their act together!"
This place is still in development mode, as is much of Colombia, so I want to give them a good evaluation, but there are definite areas for improvement. By day, there was a rockin' pool party going on here, which was not what we were looking for. Some might want that, but we wanted a relaxing and quiet stay at the beach. On the positive side, the food was excellent, and the staff was trying their hardest to keep us happy. (Diego and Guillermo in particular!) Portia is a bit understaffed, but very helpful, and plenty busy taking care of guests. Our small room was fine, but the setup does not allow fresh air, as there were no screens on the sliding glass door. In this part of the world, a screened window allows fresh air without the bugs. I did not see other rooms, but ours did not have one. The AC was fine, and we got through the 2 nights okay. Check-out was problematic - mistakes on the bill, overcharges, etc., and took over 30 minutes to sort it out.

"The place grew on us"
When we first got off the boat and walked in we thought we made a big mistake. But decided to rough it out. By the 3rd day we felt there was no place in Colombia that we would rather be. We saw the other review and had we listened to what we read we wouldn't have had this amazing opportunity. They mentioned the dogs, we'll let me tell you my amazing story about those wonderful dogs ! I woke up one morning around 4:30 am and decided to go lay in the hammock. As I entered the court yard about 6 or 7 little "mutt" dogs all woke up and couldn't wait to play. With their tails waging they were the most friendly and playful dogs I have every encountered in my life. During the heat of the day, they lay around as most lazy dogs do but before the sun comes up, this is their time to play. The greatest part of this experience was while you lay on the hammock, 2 or 3 of them get on their back under you and put their feet up as if to massage you. This went on for over an hour only to be interupted by the occasional local walking by the compound all 7 dogs would run to the fence and bark ferociously to protect their property, then return to my massage. This made me feel my family was extra safe sleeping here at night being protected by these mutts. Some times in life the best experiences happen when you least expect them and you actually spend enough time outside of your comfort zone to allow the experience of cultures different from what you conceder normal :) Move the roosters !

"Nice location. Better than we expected."
Staff were amazing, we were treated very, very well. The grounds were very pleasant and the staff were busy cleaning them at all times. Marta, the manager, speaks English very well and seems to always be there. But, Tierra Bomba island is isolated. Night life is limited, but watching the bats drinking out of the pool was very cool as well.as something I had never experienced. Water pressure is negligible but always available. Very relaxing, no vendors. Better beachcombing than anticipated. Excellent short stay to snooze on the beach.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
