Turtle Bay Resort

"Cottages by the ocean"
The Turtle Bay resort is a beautiful resort on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii. We stayed in the cottages, which are single story units that are separate from the main hotel and have a nice view of the ocean. We enjoyed the individual patios and sunsets were amazing. In comparison to a recent hotel stay on Maui, we were disappointed by the beach areas and pools. The pools are small and were nearly always overcrowded. The beach is fairly rocky and the beach sand was not well maintained and contained litter (bottle tops and plastics). If you like to golf this may be the resort for you, swimming not so much. The staff was great and very accommodating. Food was very good and there are several options.

"Excellent hotel next to beach"
This is a top of the line facility, recently updated. Staff at all levels was friendly and helpful. While not a cheap hotel, the prices seemed in line with other similar type properties nearby. The view of the ocean was fantastic. We very much enjoyed our eight day stay. The 100Sails restaurant was excellent, if a bit pricey.

"The friendly staff made our stay that much better."
Rooms are cozy and comfortable. The Staff were "off the chart" welcoming and friendly. I wish they'd address the little ceiling leaks unrepaired... We had two in our room on the ceiling. Other than that, the room was fantastic for a quick 1 week visit.

The Modern Honolulu

1775 Ala Moana Boulevard, Honolulu - Map
Beautiful hotel in a great spot on the beach. Delicious food. The only negative was sliding doors into the bathroom with the light switch on the outside, so you couldn't go in there during the night without waking up the other person in the room. Not very private feeling bathrooms. Otherwise a gorgeous resort.

Best Western The Plaza Hotel

3253 N Nimitz Hwy, Honolulu - Map
"Ok for the night"
I stayed at the Best Western Plaza out of convenience: I had a 13 hour layover in Hawaii - arrived at 19:30 and out at 8:00 the next day - I wanted a place near the airport so that I didn't have to rush over to the airport. The room I had was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The air-conditioner was loud and the location of the airport so near the highway overpass added to the air-conditioner noise. If I had to stay in Hawaii for more than a night, I would not stay at the Best Western Plaza. The staff was very friendly, having the airport shuttle is convenient. There were food places near by: McDonalds (if you that), a Korean bbq place, a sushi restaurant, Jamaba juice, and I think a Starbucks. You won't starve, but you won't get a 4 star and up meal.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
