Where Hollywood’s early movie stars made their decadent weekend escapes, and Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack threw swinging cocktail parties in the 1960s, “PS” is a swank resort. Today, this Southern California desert destination is as famous for indulgent spas and fashion-forward style as for its Mid-Century Modern architectural treasures.
It’s easy to walk around downtown Palm Springs, where everyone comes out for Thursday night street fairs. For a more sophisticated day or evening out, go art gallery hopping and shopping in Uptown’s Design District. Meanwhile, Arenas Road is a hot spot for Palm Spring’s gay and lesbian nightlife scene.
If you want to do more than just swing a golf club or swill a cocktail by the pool, Palm Springs has a lot more to offer. An aerial tramway can whisk you 6000 feet above the desert floor into Mount San Jacinto State Park for summer hiking and winter snow sports. Or take a guided walk on Native American tribal land in Indian Canyons and Tahquitz Canyon.
