"Weekend Away"
My wife and I decided to take small vacations that coincide with the weekends and had visited the Sanderling Resort a year ago during early spring and thought it would be a great place to make a return visit and it was. We spent most of the first day catching up on sleep since we are fairly sleep deprived. After waking up and exercising in their adequate fitness room we went off site for lunch which was pretty good. We returned to sit on the beach with two chairs and an umbrella, provided by the resort and setup wherever you wish. Following hours on the beach we decided to swim in the heated pool and sit in the Jacuzzi that was located out back of the North building, which is where we stayed. There are two pools the north pool for families and the southern pool for adults. Upon returning to our room we readied ourselves for bed and our new neighbors, who had a toddler who is a runner, ran for most of the evening. We tried to work through it until we reached the 11:00 p.m. hour, then we called the front desk. Following that call the running stopped. The next day's routine was almost the same but this time we had to make two calls and finally a visit to the front desk because this was not the experience that we were expecting or wanting to pay for. The night manager came to our room to witness first hand what we heard and went to investigate further. The running eventually stopped. We received no adjustment for this extra amenity.

"Family vacation in Kill Devil Hills, NC"
Shutters on the Banks is a great place to stay for a family. It's a beautiful hotel right on the beach, which is a huge plus for us! The price was reasonable for what it is, as well. Our stay included a free breakfast. The breakfast staff was very friendly! Some reasons I couldn't give this stay a score of a 5, include the followong reasons: the room always felt damp, the cleaning staff threw out things that we didn't want thrown out (and were not by the trash can), and also my son was burnt on a waffle maker that had a broken handle. Following the burning incidence, they offered ice and asked how he was feeling. The next day their broken waffle maker was gone. In my opinion, it shouldn't have taken someone getting burnt for them to remove it.

Our room was nice, clean, and comfortable. The restaurant makes a delicious cheeseburger, which they packed up as a to go order for me to take down to the beach. Overall, a good experience.

"Great location, hotel needs improvement"
This hotel is right on the beach and will rent/set up beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. for you. There is a great outside bar, unfortunately it closes rather early. The rooms are decent, but the bathrooms could use an upgrade. The water pressure is pretty bad and the showers/tubs are kind of grimy. But the restaurant is reasonable and given the location and price, overall it's a pretty good deal.

"Nice Stay at the OBX!"
This was our second stay at this vacation rental home. Still clean and well kept; carpet flooring in the living area has been switched out to a flooring that looks like wood, but guessing it is vinyl. The only negative my husband and I have is the mattress in the master is very hard compared to ours at home and not to our liking. The other thing you need to know is this community is not fully built up so construction is ongoing. Six homes built since last May and 2-3 currently under construction. The workers do keep "beach time" whether intentional or just the slow pace of beach life, so it's not usually noisy first thing in the morning, but they do work on Sundays as we've been told the developers in FL are pushing to "get it done". BTW...as this is a rental home, there is no on sight staff. Kees Vacations is the manager for the property and has a list of dos/don'ts posted on the fridge with a local contact number if you need help.

"Cosy family apartment close to beach"
The apartment is very nice and has everything that you need. You walk two blocks to the public beach access with life guard, and many restaurants and stores are also within walking distance. Plus Wright Brothers Memorial is right around the corner. The cleanliness could have been better (cereals under the dining table, sand in bathrooms). The smoke smell of another reviewer must have come from the apartment next door which is a heavy smoking resident, but you do not smell it in the apartment itself, just in the hallway. Our kids loved the bunk bed, plus having their own TV in the room. Internet was okish.

"Enjoyed our stay"
Once we got there and experienced Beachwoods it was great. Booking online and checking in was a bit disconcerting. Check-in and check-out times were different in various places on the information online. I made two separate phone calls directly to the resort to get details on various amenities and to make sure our daughter and son-in-law could check in before us because we were on separate flights. That didn't go smoothly at all when they arrived even though there was a "note" placed in my file. When they arrived they were told that check-in times for the weekend was different than was published on the website. That caused issues for them. When we arrived, we couldn't get our unit until 6:00 on Saturday -- not the 3:00 pm check-in time in the published information. When I visited with them later in the weekend, they graciously gave us a later check-out time in response to my concern. Like I said, the resort was perfect for us as we had a mix of ages from 3 to 69. The accommodations were great, however, the booking, checking-in, and phone calls made me apprehensive until we were actually there to experience the resort.

"Private Beach Access"
The hotel is right next to the beach with its own private access. It also has deck with picnic tables facing the beach. There is a pinic area with grills. However, the grill are a bit rusty, you need to really scrub it before use. The rooms with tiles are better than those carpets. The carpetted one had odor due to constantly expoed to sea water and not completely dried. Try to get rooms not on the first floor, there would be more sands from the beach. The breakfast is not very good. There are one waffle maker and one pancake maker. Thet both use the same cheap batter. There are bagels, toast, cereals, and some fruits like bananas and apples. The rooms are spacious with a small refrigirator and microwave. There is a small eating area in each room. The ocean facing rooms have balcanies. There is a feet wasing area for hotel guests after there beach trip before going to the rooms. We had a pleasent stay other thsan the not so good breakfast.

Outer Banks is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Outer Banks, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Outer Banks hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
