Great stay at JY! Clean, easily accessible, comfortable beds and great view staying on the second floor! Love the pool stays open late, and the bathrooms located by the beach so you don’t have to go back to your room. Only down side was poor cell reception in hotel room (I have Verizon and roomie has at&t) and even with the WiFi we struggled to use our phones. Regardless, would recommend and certainly stay again. Conveniently located across from kill devil grill, which was phenomenal but get there early the wait is insanely long-even for it being off season.

Nice place to stay

The decor is very nice and the grounds. Love that the pool went 8 ft deep. The breakfast bar was nice as well, similar to what some of the major hotels do. I will definitely stay here again.

Great Beach Access, but Room Fell Short

The listing advertised that my room would have a balcony, but upon check-in there was no balcony, which was disappointing. The overall cleanliness also fell short of expectations, and the room had a noticeable musky smell. That said, the accessibility to the beach was absolutely amazing and made the stay worthwhile. I would definitely consider staying here again, but next time I’ll be sure to confirm that I’m getting a room with a balcony.

We loved Yance’s place (we started calling it that lol). Perfect for a few days with a 5 & 6 year old. We loved the playground and how close the beach was. I didn’t eat the breakfast, but it looked good. The only negative thing I have to say is we had a ground floor and I wish there was a more secure way to lock the sliding glass door to the patio. We would stay here again for sure!

Perfect Stay for a Family!

This is our second stay at the John Yancey and we absolutely love it! It is so conveniently located near all of our favorite OBX stops and you really can’t beat the property itself- settled right on the beach, beautiful gazebo overlooking the water, a playground, pool, cornhole, tons of outdoor seating! We really love all it has to offer. For being a “beach hotel”, this is one of the cleaner hotels we’ve stayed in the OBX (and we’ve stayed at a ton!). The front desk staff are so welcoming and helpful! This is the perfect stay for our family and we will be back again and again!

We stayed on the beach side this time. Loved our room. If you are shorter than 5’0, you might have a hard time getting into the shower. The walls to the tub are high. You will love the beach, we had easy access to get on the beach. Breakfast is always good. Definitely coming back next year.
