Great Beach Access, but Room Fell Short

The listing advertised that my room would have a balcony, but upon check-in there was no balcony, which was disappointing. The overall cleanliness also fell short of expectations, and the room had a noticeable musky smell. That said, the accessibility to the beach was absolutely amazing and made the stay worthwhile. I would definitely consider staying here again, but next time I’ll be sure to confirm that I’m getting a room with a balcony.

We loved Yance’s place (we started calling it that lol). Perfect for a few days with a 5 & 6 year old. We loved the playground and how close the beach was. I didn’t eat the breakfast, but it looked good. The only negative thing I have to say is we had a ground floor and I wish there was a more secure way to lock the sliding glass door to the patio. We would stay here again for sure!

Perfect Stay for a Family!

This is our second stay at the John Yancey and we absolutely love it! It is so conveniently located near all of our favorite OBX stops and you really can’t beat the property itself- settled right on the beach, beautiful gazebo overlooking the water, a playground, pool, cornhole, tons of outdoor seating! We really love all it has to offer. For being a “beach hotel”, this is one of the cleaner hotels we’ve stayed in the OBX (and we’ve stayed at a ton!). The front desk staff are so welcoming and helpful! This is the perfect stay for our family and we will be back again and again!

We stayed on the beach side this time. Loved our room. If you are shorter than 5’0, you might have a hard time getting into the shower. The walls to the tub are high. You will love the beach, we had easy access to get on the beach. Breakfast is always good. Definitely coming back next year.

This was our first time visiting the Outer Banks, and we were specifically looking for a place within walking distance to the beach. This spot turned out to be absolutely perfect. Our room was right in the middle of everything—the pool, the café for breakfast, and of course, the beach. One of our favorite parts was the little gazebo by the beach. Even when it got breezy, we were able to get cozy and comfortable there, both during the day and at night. We loved sitting together as a family, watching the sea, feeling the breeze, and just soaking in the atmosphere. It was such a great vibe and exactly the kind of much-needed break we were hoping for. The staff was incredibly accommodating and made us feel so welcome. Breakfast was always complimentary and well-stocked with everything we could want, which made mornings so easy. We had such a wonderful experience here and truly can’t wait to come back!

We were not able to make it to this Inn that gave us such a hard time to talking to us because of the weather and the evacuation that was happening during the week. The place refuses to give us a refund for the reservations. We had looked forward in spending the 4 days at the John Yancey inn and with this terrible experience I don’t think I would feel welcome there.
