"Great hotel in the Zona Colonia"
Great place to stay in the middle of the old colonial part of Santo Domingo. Great beds, staff, and very safe. They have these lovely little seating areas throughout the hotel, which made it feel cosy. The rooftop pool is quite nice, too. Easy walking everywhere with lots of food options close by. The hotel food was very good, and the bar staff pour generously (highly recommend their mojitos!) The staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was most enjoyable. Very friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. Can't say enough, can't wait to go back!

"My favorite hotel in the Dominican Republic"
The Isabela Catolica suite is wonderful. I would recommend the rooms on the right side of the courtyard over the left. I stayed there two times last week. I did have a problem with the first of the two stays...I had booked a junior suite but did not get it upon arrival. There did not seem to be anyone on the staff empowered to do anything about and Expedia's customer service was less than useless. They did not follow through with what they said they were going to do and seemed more interested in getting me off the phone. I will stay at the hotel again. I will not book it through Expedia. My only complaint about the hotel is the restaurant. Each time I have been there, there has been a sign up announcing an international meal selection and it is never available. That said, the breakfast is nice. And there are plenty of restaurants in the Zona Colonial so the deficiencies of the hotel's scarcely matters.

"Historical boutique hotel in the Zona Colonial"
We were so impressed with the architecture of the building, how it has been preserved and the gardens. Be sure to use the roof top terrace! The rooms are beautiful with high ceilings, lovely decor details, and extremely comfortable beds. The location could not be better for experiencing the old part of Santo Domingo with El Conde (shops and restaurants) around the corner, the oldest cathedral in America 2 minutes away, and plazas to sit and listen to music or watch 'life' steps from the front door. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

"Intimate, perfect location, friendly staff."
The Hotel Portes is a small hotel in a quiet corner of the Colonial Zone. It fronts a small park, and, because it is not directly on the street, has no through-traffic which makes it quiet. It feels a little bit removed from the main tourist area, even though it is just three blocks from the main Cathedral and the Parque Colon; the location is really terrific. I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. It helps to speak some Spanish, of course. Breakfast is cooked to order, which is nice; I asked for, and received, extra towels; wifi was strong and consistent. In short, it is a really solid place to stay. If you do stay there, please keep your expectations reasonable; the Dominican Republic is still a Third-World country, so if you want the Hilton, go there instead. My room safe was not big enough to fit my laptop; the electricity failed twice during my stay; my shower had only hot (!) water, no cold; my toilet did not always refill so I flushed it with a bucket of water; the bathroom door did not fit the opening so privacy would have been impossible. If little annoyances like these are going to wreck your day, choose another hotel. But if you like the idea of a quiet little gem, perfectly located and staffed with friendly people, give this one a try.

Malecon is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Malecon, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Malecon hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
