Hotel entrance very difficult to locate; Huge sign on the side of the building with hotel name, but what is NOT clear is that the hotel starts on the 4th floor; 1st through 3rd floors are retail. 2 elevator banks can take you to the 4th floor, but there is not much signage, sad to say. Restaurant is convenient; has good prices. Coffee/tea etc. in reception area.
Hauling luggage from the train station is not convenient; taxi stand is on the other side of the station. Sadly, reception staff do not have much English. The maid on my floor was much more fluent, and also much friendlier. They do hold luggage; but you are not allowed to check in even 10 minutes early. Typical small hotel room; heat is controlled centrally - you can set the rate of the fan only. You can, however, open the window! Decent hotel, good fast food and take out in the train station nearby. Be aware that Niigata is not a friendly city to non-Japanese tourists. All written tourist info was in Japanese. Taxi drivers were friendly and excellent, as long as you have written addresses for them to use.

We enjoyed the delicious hot breakfast served at 7:00am. Our rooms had an electric hot water container for instant hot green tea packets & tea cups provided every day. The housekeeping staff were helpful to remind us to turn the green card over in our bedroom for service to have fresh bed linens. I had forgotten to turn the card over one day & we didn't have the service. I had them send up fresh linens & I remembered after that experience to go green! I was told to remember to use the door knob sign to show I'm sleeping or have the room cleaned. The staff placed the necessary amenities in our bathroom for our comfort. These amenities consisted of 2 inclosed vacuum packed sanitized bath sponges, 2 bagged sanitized toothbrushes with onetime use toothpaste tube, 2 sanitized bagged fold-up hair brushes, & 2 bagged razors with a shaving cream packet in each. There is a laundry room access on 1rst floor. The cost to wash & dry is only $4. We payed $3 in Japanese coins to wash & $1 in Japanese coins to dry.
Our family has stayed at this Loisir Hotel each time we have visited Joetsu, Japan.
We have fond memories there & they welcomed us back each time.

We'd stayed at other Onsen hotels and that's why we chose this hotel. Our hotel room air conditioning wasn't working but a staff member came & tried to repair and it didn't work so he brought us a fan. It worked out well because it cooled off during the night. The bathroom had a mildew odor and the room smelled a bit of smoke but it was tolerable. The onsen is wonderful with the 6 different pools but needs overhauling, new tile as there was much grout missing and the patio window doors going from the inside onsen to the outdoor onsen was dirty. The smorgasbord meal was just "ok" (I'm comparing to the same type of hotels offering same type of meals in other parts of Japan). They have a FANTASTIC staff of people!!!
