"Great location! Across the street from the beach"
It was overall a good experience but the biggest draw back is when we first arrived to the room there was a window with a gun shot that hadn't been fixed... as you can imagine that's not a nice first impression but after being there for almost a week I can saw the experience was overall pleasant. The hotel staff is extremely friendly. I loved the location across and walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants. Very convenient location and feels safe to walk late at night.

We stayed in this hotel before and after completing the "Lost City" hike, and it was the perfect location (round the corner from the tour organizer) and environment to relax in. Eclectic rooms based on different international cities, and a pool on the roof to relax at. Nice breakfast, and so many gin and tonic options in the bar!

Our stay was great, but there are two reasons why we don't give it a five star review. The Bungalows we stayed at need a little updating and there were very few staff members who could speak English. We were reassured by the tourism office in the resort that the visit to Tayrona was a great day trip, despite our concerns that some reviews said otherwise. We should have not listened to them but stuck to our gut instinct to skip Tayrona, the visit to the park was not pleasant at all!

We visited Barranquilla to visit our exchange student from the previous year and to meet her family. They took us to many areas including the beaches at Santa Marta, the military base at Santa Marta, many local areas around Barranquilla, and a day trip to Cartagena. Colombia is a friendly country for the most part, but there are some really impoverished areas that should probably be avoided. The Fort of San Felipe in Cartagena is a must see if you go there, and then a walk through the old historic city is well worth it with the old buildings and culture an experience.
