"Very good, 'traditional' small hotel"
Stayed here the night before the Anfield 100 time trial (bike race), with my wife. Very handy for Shawbury, the race HQ. Food was good, staff were pleasant if a little disorganised at times, and they were accommodating to my need for a very early (5.20 a.m.) breakfast, and they found a handy place for me to leave the bike prior to leaving. They also let me come back and have a shower in the early afternoon, so we also stayed for lunch. I would definitely stay again in similar circumstances and will be recommending it to my clubmates (there are a lot of time trial races around there); I guess the only issue would be if there was a wedding on. They clearly are very reliant on being a wedding venue, and if you were a non-wedding guest trying to sleep early, it might be a problem. This didn't arise for our stay as it was a Sunday bank holiday evening.

"Lovely historic back ground."
Mad Jack Myton left a legacy not least in his name. The Myton & Mermaid is a delightful old country hotel set beside the river Severn. There are grounds to sit in and a covered area to relax with a drink or a snack. This is a place where locals go for a friendly get together over a drink. I know for certain there is a lovely fire in the winter giving a cosy atmosphere to the room. .Bar and restaurant food is good and stylish. My room was in the newer courtyard building. Spotlessly clean and nicely decorated although on the small side. There was an ensuite with shower, basin and toilet. The shower cubicle was high off the ground and if you are less than mobile it would be worth asking if there is a more accessible bathroom. My only critisism is the heavy duvet, much too hot for my liking. Had I been staying for longer I would have asked for just a sheet. I will be happy to return next time I visit Shrewsbury.

"Location perfect!"
Location in centre of Shrewsbury was perfect, easy enough to find and staff were friendly and helpful on arrival. 24 hour reception meant we didn't feel pressured to meet a deadline and were able to come and go as we pleased. The d├ęcor is a little dated but in keeping with the theme and the rooms were clean, bathroom was updated and modern, shower was lovely. Breakfast was more than ample and again good helpful staff. Cooked breakfast to order and buffet with cereals and juices to eat until your fill, no pressure to move out immediately which meant a nice start to the day with lots of tea! It was a bit noisy in the morning (room location) and the only thing a bit annoying was the parking - it wasn't clear that there was valet / off site parking so we ended up paying for NCP car park down the road so we could go into the hotel. also I don't really like other people driving my car so for me that was a bit of a grumble but location wise perfect and the staff were really nice.

The hotel and grounds were first class, breakfast was good but service was slow and a bit chaotic due to about 30 golfers all wanting a different breakfast together !! The staff did well to cope (I'd have told them to tee off !) with even the duty manager rolling up his sleeves and helping to serve .. Well done in the circumstances :-)

Shropshire is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Shropshire, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Shropshire hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
