"Ideal location close to nightlife andhopping"
I would recommend this hotel for a flying visit it was good value for money. The room was very clean but very small and a bit dated. The breakfast the next morning was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful.

"Very close to 'diamond strip'"
We picked this hotel for it's closeness to the bars and clubs on Collingwood Street since we were staying for New Year's Eve. Check in was quick and efficient (we were able to check in at 1pm), room was beautiful with comfy bed and spacious bathroom. We easily walked from the hotel to the clubs and back, without having to face the taxi queues! Breakfast was gorgeous with a good selection and the icing on the cake was that they left the carpark barriers up as a New Year gift - such a lovely touch and it was greatly appreciated. Will be back!

"Nice hotel, lovely staff and good customer service"
Everyone who worked in the hotel and the bar were lovely and were more than happy to do anything for us. Offered to help with our bags and ensured our stay was as comfortable as possible. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Hotel decor was new and modern-although rooms were quite basic. Car park had only 3 spaces but we managed to park there overnight. Very good location to get into city centre or to just stay and go to a few bars on the road. Little waitrose opposite. Although busy road and area, was very quiet and didn't hear anything all night (our room was at the back on the hotel). Would recommended and would visit again.

"Great central Newcastle location"
If you're primarily looking for a central location in Newcastle you can hardly beat the Grey Street Hotel as it is right on the famous cobbled thoroughfare lined with fantastic architecture and is the heart of the city. The welcome / reception we received was fine, and arriving into the room we were pleasantly surprised to discover a larger than expected bedroom area, well decorated and furnished except for the tacky carpet which had at least 2 iron-burn singe marks. Bathroom was absolutely fine but shower screen leaked a fair bit. After a good nights' sleep on a comfortable bed we decided to have breakfast in the hotel rather than head out, only because it was raining. This is where our experience went downhill somewhat. The cold buffet selection was poor, several items running out (despite not being late) and the cooked items we ordered were unappetising to say the least. The service in this part of the hotel was also slack and disappointing. It wasn't worth it at all. Check-out redeemed the balance as they were very helpful and friendly, allowing us to store our luggage much longer than the check our time due to the rain. Overall this hotel is worth a try if your are not expecting anything more than a decent place to sleep at a reasonable price - and we'd recommend going OUT for breakfast! (There are plenty of good places nearby we discovered later...)

Room was very stylish but slightly soulless and looked out at an office which was less than impressive. A river view costs more but probably worth the extra.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
