"good quality of hotel with welcoming staff"
Arrived quite late and left early so not really able to get full taste of hotel. Rooms are very clean but really not of my taste, kind of Victorian meets 21st century with twist of 50's retro ??? I sat on the bed, looked about the room to decide what I really liked and answer was nothing. That is of course just personal taste. Towel radiator in bathroom also made for a very warm room all night. look fantastic from outside and wish I had time to explore the town as it looks all very nice.

"Fine historic hotel"
This elegant architectural delight is set in fine gardens adjacent to the University. It is a training hotel for prospective hoteliers and the numerous staff are all perfecting their profession.. The new wing was designed in a modern style and bore no resemblance to the original architecture which seemed inapposite. That the planners permitted this is as perplexing as why an architect would wish to betray the wonderful original facades. Nevertheless, the rooms were well equipped , roomy , well furnished and clean. We would stay there again without hesitation.

"Many happy returns!"
I visit the hotel several times a year, on my own or with my little granddaughter, and we both love it. The staff make us feel very welcome, the rooms are quiet and comfortable and the pool area is lovely. This time we treated ourselves to an executive room and sat out on the patio watching the birds and enjoying the sun. Breakfast is always good and the restaurant is very nice for an evening meal or afternoon tea, but you can also eat in the bar, by the pool and in your room - I was pleased that the room service menu and hours it was available had been extended. The hotel is good value for anyone who wants to relax in pleasant surroundings. I've already booked my next visit!

"Nice hotel, great for couples "
Lovely weekend stay at this hotel. It was quite noisy at night due to music and people outside in the smoking area, but apart from that it was great, the food was lovely and room service was good. Staff were pleasant when interacting but, when not interacting with customers they were talking about personal things like 'getting drunk at the weekend' etc which was a little off putting as your trying to enjoy your beautifully cooked breakfast and you cant help but listen. Apart from something as minor as that we were very very impressed. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend(s).

"Great location"
A decent hotel in a great location in the high street. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. The hotel is a little tired in appearance and the bar/restaurant, whilst not as dated as the rest of the hotel, lacked any atmosphere which is probably due to the stark lighting. Turn down the lights, add a few candles and hey presto! The room was pleasant enough and what you would expect from an old hotel. The main issue was the very musky smell and both the sink and toilet which had very obviously not been fully refreshed from the previous occupant. Overall, however, a nice overnight stay and would book again at the right price.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
