Known mainly for its massive mall (the country’s largest!), King of Prussia attracts legions of shoppers from bargain hunters to big spenders. Tourists? Not so much. Chances are if you’re staying here, you’re on business – major pharmaceutical companies like GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer have offices here, as do Lockheed Martin and General Electric.
But the area does have one major attraction. You’re cannon-firing distance from Valley Forge National Historical Park, where George Washington and his men spent the harrowing winter of 1777-78 before regrouping and taking back Philadelphia (and turning the tide of the Revolutionary War). Explore the restored colonial building that served as Washington’s Headquarters and the log cabins used by the troops. You can also hike and bike the many trails that run through the park.
And though it took the Continental Army a day to reach Philadelphia, you can be there in less than half an hour. A quick drive or SEPTA ride brings you to downtown Philly and its historic, cultural and culinary highlights.
