Our stay at Placemakr Austin Downtown was a mixed bag. While the location and the value for a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit are excellent, the experience was hampered by several issues. Pros: Location & Value: The location is unbeatable for the price. Having a spacious 2-bedroom setup in downtown Austin is a significant benefit. Cleanliness: The unit was very clean and well-kept. Staff: The front desk team was helpful. Cons: Disturbances: We were evacuated by a fire alarm our first night, and another alarm went off early the next morning, likely triggered accidentally by staff. Communication: If booking via Expedia, contact the property 24 hours in advance to register, or you will receive zero communication. Systems: The 6-digit PIN system for parking/elevators is troublesome; get a key fob at the desk instead. Maintenance: WiFi was non-functional in our unit. We also experienced loud, deep vibrations from the closet at night, and a vanity drawer front fell off onto my wife's foot. Odors: A sewage-like smell in the living room plagued us. Housekeeping masked it, but it returned the next morning. Amenities: The pool area has zero shade; bring plenty of sunscreen. While the staff and cleanliness were great, the communication hurdles and maintenance issues made for a more stressful trip than I would have liked. I would recommend this property only if you are prioritizing budget and location over a seamless, high-end experience.
