Room was tired. Rooms and accommodation areas (corridors etc) need renovating as currently tired. Dusty ceilings, dirty curtains and paintwork, old fashioned blocks.
Don't charge for barista made coffee at breakfast - that's provided in other hotels as part of breakfast.
Pool was very cold. Would be good to be warmer. Also pool towels were tiny.
Hotel was two thirds empty - would've been nice to be upgraded room free of charge given this.
Also on lunch and dinner menu offer more cheap options - like the pizza which is excellent. More options in the $15-20 region i.e. Sandwiches / burgers / salads etc.
Bar and breakfast areas were very welcoming.
Very accommodating with our baby - definitely child friendly which was excellent.

If you're looking for a place to stay near Cairns that has a bit more wildlife and a bit more relaxation I can easily recommend Thala. The staff handled everything including booking a couple tours (which went excellently) leaving us to just relax at the end of a long vacation. The location is great since it's about a 15-20 minute drive to Port Douglas and the more touristy resorts, bars, and restaurants if you want but it's far enough away that you'll see lots of animals and get lots of peace and quiet.
