There's a lot to praise at Dunston hall and you'll read about that elsewhere. I just want to point out one defect in the hope that someone at Dunston Hall will see this and take some action to prevent it happening again. We ate at the brasserie on 3 evenings and the cooking was, with one exception, very good. The exception was on the last night when one of my hasselback potatoes turned out to be bad . The attached photo shows how black it was inside. I showed this to the waitress who said she would refer it to the chef. Later on, I asked her about this and she said that the chef apologised and that she apologised too. From the way this happened and was said I doubt very much that the message actually reached the head chef. I wouldn't have bothered so much except that four hours later I came down with one of the worst bouts of food poisoning I've ever had. I I didn't know that you could get such bad stomach cramps from a cooked potato but the Google AI tells me it's quite possible. As well as warning other diners to check the food that they are eating I hope that this message gets through to the hotel kitchen and that they check their potatoes before they are cooked. But other than that I thought that the Dunston Hotel was very good and would recommend it.
