I booked this hotel some months ago and I started reading reviews prior to check in. I'll admit I got a bit nervous. That being said we decided to stay the night and try it out. First impressions were that there was more space than many rooms we've stayed in while in Japan. Many features look newish and it has a full kitchen. Then things get weird. The wall paper is peeling off. There's a persistent bad smell. There's roach traps everywhere. I tried to shower and the shower nozzle fell off. My husband tried to leave to do a Lawson run and the latch on the lock fell off. The beds were surprisingly comfortable but it's also loud in the morning with people talking in the alleyway. It was fine for the night but I wouldn't stay here again.

The onsen is not big but it is clean and has a peaceful atmosphere. Drinks are provided in the common area and it is perfect after using the onsen. Breakfast and dinner provided were of good quality. The staff speaks good English and they were very helpful.

The property was very pretty & trendy. Not a great area, but perhaps it’s up and coming. I wouldn’t say the hotel is a great option for families as they’re more focused around drinking (ex. Promoting happy hour drinking, free beer in the lobby, bar up top). As a family of four (two teenagers with us) I would have rather stayed in a ryokan and not spent time at the Lively. It started with our check-in: the staff weren’t very pleasant and seemed irritated we were there, but we checked in later in the day so maybe we caught them at a bad time. The issues just snowballed from there. 1) Our room backed on to the elevator. When we asked if we could move (and offered to pay) they said no, that this was the “tier” we had booked because we booked through Expedia and they were completely full. We understood and moved on. 2) In our room, there was a bundle of live, unprotected wires under the bed. My husband noticed them when we started to get settled in, and when he went to inspect them, they sparked and the breaker flipped. Emergency lights came on. When we called down to the front desk, they didn’t say anything about the potential fire hazard, just moved us (despite being full up). We were placed in another room that backed on to the elevators 3) In the new room, the sheets were dirty with blood stains. We had to ask for new sheets and remake the beds. No apology given All in all, our best time in the hotel was at check out. Happy to be moving on to a different hotel today.

Room was very well priced, clean, in a great location, staff were friendly.
