We have stayed at a wide range of hotels and onsen over the years up and down Japan. At some there is no choice but to dine in house. At some there is no choice but to rely on the hotel's shuttle for access. Usually this turns out to be no problem at all and the visit is very enjoyable. But sometimes the experience might seem a little bit too controlled. The Kusatsu Hotel and the hot springs town it serves excel because they provide an unusual variety of choices. While the hotel baths are very nice the nearby outdoor baths in the public park are sublime. The hotel's location is perfect between the park and town. And while we dined in town and cannot judge the hotel's cuisine everything else about the service we received was excellent.

"Onsen Onsen Onsen"
this hotel is primarily for ONSEN. if you aren't going to spend 3 to 5 times a day at their onsen, you ought to find some place else to rest at. my girlfriend and i stayed in the japanese deluxe suite on the 4th floor, so they weren't standard beds but still comfy. as for the onsen, they are separated by gender and are full nude onsen baths. do not drink unresponsibly and use the onsen as you might pass out. our room had a mini fridge with many drinks. the menu clearly states that all drinks that are taken on the last staying day are complimentary...this curiousity made me go down to ask front desk if such a thing was true. found out it wasn't. like they say, “no free lunch” to get to kusatsu onsen from tokyo is a trainride and bus ride to the town station, but when u call the hotel they will scoop you and send you to the hotel. beware, this is not tokyo and their english is poor. your best bet is to ask the bus driver who sent you to kusatsu onsen station to call the hotel and tell them you are waiting to be scooped. i really enjoyed our two night stay. kusatsu onsen is a hidden gem itself in japan. the center attraction in kusatsu onsen is wonderful and this hotel offers you legit yutaka robes for your stay.i myself happened to walk the streets in the yutaka even though most locals were looking at me like i was crazy but hey, it surely makes you submerged in some sort of premodern japan experience !

"Onsen terrific BUT entire place needs updating"
We'd stayed at other Onsen hotels and that's why we chose this hotel. Our hotel room air conditioning wasn't working but a staff member came & tried to repair and it didn't work so he brought us a fan. It worked out well because it cooled off during the night. The bathroom had a mildew odor and the room smelled a bit of smoke but it was tolerable. The onsen is wonderful with the 6 different pools but needs overhauling, new tile as there was much grout missing and the patio window doors going from the inside onsen to the outdoor onsen was dirty. The smorgasbord meal was just "ok" (I'm comparing to the same type of hotels offering same type of meals in other parts of Japan). They have a FANTASTIC staff of people!!!

Kusatsu is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Kusatsu, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Kusatsu hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
