"The ambiance of a ryokan and the modern hotel."
Very enjoyable experience with polite staff in kimono. If one would like to immerse themselves in Japanese tradition with tatami floors, sleeping on futon, and taking a traditional bath (onsen)/dress in yukata provided by the hotel, then this is the hotel for you.

"excellent hospitality! Friendly host! :)"
Though the stay was not cheap, the host, his family and staff, made our stay a pleasing and comfortable one, and for the excellent hospitality, the price paid is worth it! :) We are 3 adults travelling with 3 young kids so we are especially grateful when the host and/or his wife had offered to ferry us (I believe this applies to all his staying guests) to and fro the train station to their ryokan, as well as to the snow monkey park. As long as the host/car is available, he and/or his wife will be glad to ferry us to the nearby attractions or eateries. Initially we wanted to try the onsen with the kids and had asked the host about it, his wife readily offered to let us use their onsen bath at no charge! On the second night, they offered again without us asking! We are really grateful with these nice little gestures which really made us feel welcomed! The host also had snow boots for loan (at no charges) when he saw that my shoes was not suitable for hiking the Snow Monkey Park and Ski Park. He even taught the kids how to make snow ball with the tools we had. Everything in the room is clean and well-kept. The paid breakfast is simple yet tastes well and is filling! Shimaya Ryokan is highly recommended and we will definitely stay with Shimaya Ryokan if we visit Nagano again! :)

"Most expensive hotel of our honeymoon but WORTH IT"
This was the last place we stayed during our honeymoon trip to Korea and Japan — we had the "Japanese Style with Open Air Bath B (Take)" room which was massive and featured an outdoor bathing area with piped in hot spring water. We had an amazing host who explained everything about the room, a spectacular dinner was included, and overall a really magical evening. Definitely worth the cost. Still thinking about our time there...

During our stay at the hotel, there were heavy snow conditions and an avalanche that occurred the day before our arrival, causing the snow monkey tourist site to close. Despite this unfortunate experience, the hotel staff members' level of service made us feel somewhat less disappointed. Everyone here are friendly and welcoming. This is one of the main aspects I look for in a great holiday.

"Classic Japanese mountain hotel"
Amazing experience, we stayed there as part of a quick tour that was tacked onto a work trip so we didn't have time to learn alot of Japanese. And getting there was challenging, however a little effort goes along way. Once we got to the hotel we were shown our room and all the comforts by the front desk, which be prepared it's two futon mattresses and down comforters with liner. Very warm (though we were there when it was 90F during the day). View from the room was splendid, and as we only had one night we had to check out at 11 the front desk held our bags as we took the bus up to monkey park (also gave us help on using the bus and when to show up, we had a JRail pass that covered the bus). Only real complaints were little to communicate (really that's our issue though) and breakfast only takes reservations (which goes back likely to the whole language barrier). Otherwise I totally want to go again but try to learn more than 10 words. (Plus winter time you'll see the monkeys in the hot springs and the hot springs might be slightly more desirable)

Yamanouchi is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Yamanouchi, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Yamanouchi hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
