In inland Orange County, well-kempt Irvine is one of Southern California’s biggest planned communities, standing on former ranch lands. Today it’s the busy headquarters of nearly 100 companies, including California’s beloved burger chain, In-n-Out. It’s also home to several college and university campuses, most prominently the University of California, Irvine/
Irvine can be a convenient base for family vacations to Southern California. Orange County’s gorgeous coastal beaches and Anaheim’s Disneyland Resort and Knott’s Berry Farm theme parks are all within easy day-tripping distance. At Irvine’s Orange County Great Park – which is nearly twice as big as NYC’s Central Park – bring the kids and clamber into a basket attached to a gigantic helium-filled balloon, which floats up to 400 feet high above the sunny landscape.
Irvine’s location at the junction of the I-405 and I-5 Freeways makes it a handy location if you’re taking a business trip to the region. Barring traffic jams, Los Angeles is only an hour’s drive north, while San Diego is about 90 minutes south.
