"Nice hotel with retro charm"
I've stayed at The Commodore twice now, both with good experiences. It is an older hotel but well kept up. The rooms are very clean, especially given the beach location. The decor is dated, but that only adds to the charm. The staff is friendly and helpful. Great stay at a great price!

"Front desk staff was cool, location is awesome!"
Experienced a slight check in problem as I booked through Expedia, staff worked with me to resolve problems. Didn't see any roaches, anywhere, like some of the reviews I read had said. Beds were comfy, breakfast was ok.

"Affordable hotel - easy drive to Galveston"
As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by the smell of a heavily fragranced, deodorized room. At least it didn't smell musty and moldy. My bed was comfortable. One of the bathroom towels did not look like it had been replaced since the last person stayed. It wasn't used or anything, it just had lint on it from the overhead vent. Overall, I felt safe. The room temperature was comfortable. Not too humid like many coastal hotels are. The man who checked me in was very friendly and efficient!

    Explore Galveston

Talk about a split personality. A well-heeled Victorian historic district offsets the sunburnt craziness of spring break at this beach getaway 50 miles southeast of Houston. Only a few of the gorgeous grand dames, such as Moody Mansion, are available for viewing year round, but the Historic Homes Tour opens more in May.

Both an island and a town, Galveston has seen its share of serious storms, most notably in 1900 and 2008. But it always fights back and reopens for business. Take time to eat and shop in the historic Strand District before stopping into Pier 21 Theater or the Texas Seaport Museum to see the 1877 tall ship Elissa.

Freely accessible beaches line the gulf side of the island, but organized Stewart Beach has family-friendly facilities, concessions and games. For even more fun, Pleasure Pier offers amusements and rides. And Moody Gardens’ three glass pyramids contain a rainforest, science exhibits, an aquarium and an IMAX theater. Not tired yet? Nearby Schlitterbahn waterpark can wear the little ones out.
