Had a lovely holiday, loved the Hotel. Restaurants in the Hotel were excellent, and also many nice places
to eat, just a short walk. The Hotel were very helpful in suggestions, bookings, and advising us of places

Everything about this hotel was excellent. We were upgraded on arrival and given welcome drinks. Our room overlooked the Rose Garden and the sea and the views were peaceful and relaxing. We were able to enjoy live music from our balcony each night if we chose to or shut it out if we didn't want to hear it. The food selection was varied and of an excellent quality. The staff were friendly and accomdating, even when many were worried about the fires that were spreading around the island whilst we were there! In fact, the fires were the only blot on our holiday, everything else was superb.

The hotel is situated on a main road (no noise problems though) which gives great links to the main buses in to Funchal, including a courtesy bus from the hotel, and the open top tour buses.
The hotel says 4 star but how it isn't a 5 star I will never know! The hotel is home to beautiful gardens, including an orchid garden, making the scenery even more beautiful. Butterflies are always flying around and it just feels like paradise. The hotel is clean and maintained thoroughly everyday, they even have Harris Hawks come everyday that fly around to scare the pigeons and seagulls away!
The staff are so friendly and speak very good English, but everyone in Madeira is so friendly and helpful!
Whilst in Madeira, you must do some of these things: go up the cable car and visit the botanical gardens; get the toboggan back down the hill (but get the bus back to town, not a taxi as it's expensive), visit the natural pools at Porto Moniz, hire a car and just drive around- beautiful scenery but very very steep hills.
If you intend to get the bus everywhere, go to the newsagents to buy your tickets. You have like a top up card and you present it for every trip on a bus. So if you have 10 trips, you can go back and forth to Funchal 5 times. It works out much cheaper than buying on the bus and the bus driver told us this!
We missed out on going on a catamaran but loads of families there told us how brilliant it was as the Dolphins swam alongside and even views of a couple of whales!

Hotel about ten minutes from the centre of Funchal.
Beautiful gardens and comfortable room.
Bathroom a little tired as are the pool areas and sun loungers.
Staff charming but seemed overworked.
Set menu quite good but food is better and cheaper in town.
Breakfast good but dining room very warm.
We got an excellent price so quite happy overall.

I stayed here as a solo traveller for 4 nights.Right away I felt that I had made the right choice.Super staff all around.Decor and furnishings of a high quality in all the public areas.Spotlessly clean throughout.Pool was the best I have been in-only 1.30m at deepest so ideal for a non swimmer!.My room was at the side of the hotel 2nd floor (238) overlooking a road and also had a small balcony overlooking a road junction but with a sea view.A little noisy at times but it did not really spoil things.Restaurant was well run and clean and smart in appearance with a sea view.I stayed for B+B and there was a good selection for all tastes.Food quality was good.Bar staff were great.Bar prices very reasonable.pool terrace was excellent with a good selection of good quality furniture to use.The hotel is on slightly steep corner/hill but you get used to this quite quickly-just take your time!.Good location-lots of restaurants and the Lido within 15 mins walk, also the Forum shopping center is a 30 mins walk which is nice to walk to via the Lido & Promenade which is beautiful as is all of Funchal area. You can walk into Funchal within 15 mins-and back say within 20 mins (uphill) or via the Santa Catarina Park.A good choice and I would certainly recommend this Adults only Hotel.

Funchal, capital of the Madeira Islands, curves along a harbor and rises up verdant mountain slopes. At the Mercado dos Lavradores market, vendors display basketry, produce, fresh fish, and profusions of flowers. The Madeira Wine Lodge, housed in a 17th-century monastery building, offers tastings and tours. A ride in a wicker toboggan down steep, narrow streets is a uniquely Funchal experience.
