"Lovely hotel, staff very friendly"
We stayed here go the final 2 nights of our honeymoon following two weeks of travelling around Portugal and Madeira and doing a lot of walking! The room was perfect, we had a sea view and the bed was easily the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, the staff were lovely and we came back to our room the first afternoon to find a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate our honeymoon! I had a fantastic massage the second day and the food was good quality. Overall a very nice hotel, more than 2 days of lying around the pool would have got a bit boring but that's just us!

"Relaxing summer vacation "
We chose this hotel because of the location (far away from any "large" city) and because it had spa facilities. It only opened 2 years ago so it is in spotless condition, has plenty of facilities/pools and bar/restaurants to try, we had a wonderful stay there. At the booking stage we didn't chose the rooms with sea view but turns out due to the shape of the hotel most of the rooms have sea view anyway, only a couple looks towards an interior garden. I guess we got lucky and got upgraded to a family room (though this was never mentioned at check in) because it had its own living room area, kitchenette as well. Breakfast has a large buffet selection - the typical leisure hotel style, but it's ok. The outside parking space was full most of the time, we somehow missed that there was a garage under the hotel as well, I would park there during summer as the cars get really hot inside under the sun. You have to pay extra for the spa facilities (you can use the gym for free though) The only nuisance were the insects that kept getting into our first floor (ground level) room, but talking to other guests they had no similar issues, and their rooms were smaller so we had nothing to complain about. I can only highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Peaceful setting. Calm quiet atmosphere "
The staff are courteous and friendly and helpful. If they were unable to help directly they could always advise where you might get the help you needed. We enjoyed our stay but did find a big disadvantage that as it was 3-4 miles inland from the express way on very difficult roads you didn't want to go into the town after dark. This meant that you ate in the hotel every night. The restaurant menu was very good although it was the same every night so you eventually ran out of choice. After dinner the place seemed to be desserted so there wasn't anything else but to return to your room and entertain yourself . The hotel is a long way from any town and most of the roads had no pavements so a car is necessary. The gardens are extensive and the hotel can arrange for a guided tour of the grounds given by their own gardener who is very knowledgeable.

"Good hotel with weaknesses "
Nice hotel with very friendly staff, a few things could improve the experience: Rooms clean and sufficiently spacious, bit dated and could do with new carpets (clean but a little worn). Wifi in rooms non-existent unless you stand right by the window. Blackout curtains do not black out completely (not an issue for everybody but I like dark rooms for sleeping), additionally they have spotlights in the garden that light up the impressive trees but send a lot of light into the rooms.

"Good position"
There is a bus stop outside the hotel which will take you to the centre of Funchal or up to Monte for the Monte palace gardens ( much easier than the cable car if you have vertigo ) The sea view from the room we stayed in was lovely and the promenade was accessed from the rear of the hotel where there are several very nice restaurants.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
