"Good view, great breakfast"
The hotel is a little far away from the BSI stop (flybus) or the Gray Line stop, which means you'll need the door-to-door pickup for your airport transfer. On the positive side, it is located close to the sea and you can see the snowy mountains from your hotel room. We booked a family room for 4 people. The room was a little smaller than expected and the windows were so low that people outside could peek in easily. The beds and toilets were clean, and the breakfast was decent.

Grand Hotel Reykjavik

"Great hotel, wonderful room & staff & breakfast"
Grand Hotel Reykjavik was great to stay at. Though they have some construction currently (to their conference centre?), it was quiet in the evening and nights. The staff are very helpful and quick to respond - they helped us figure out the hotel safe, they help book trips, they answered questions about the buses, etc. The location is good (quiet, safe area) but doesn't have many restaurants around (and the hotel restaurant is super expensive, as are a lot of things in Reykjavik). They do offer a shuttle (really, just a taxi service the hotel pays for) 5 times a day, which was great to use, but they only bring you downtown, they don't pick you up. The walk back is ~ 30min, or you can bus (many options) or take a taxi. We had breakfast included, and it was great! Buffet, American-type options (eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes etc) and more European (fresh breads, ham, cheese, tomatoes/cucumbers, veggies), many types of yogurt and fruit.

"Nice Studio apartment close to everything"
We stayed at Alfred's studios in from May 4-7, 2017 and had a wonderful stay. Although there is no front desk since it is an apartment building, the staff are very easy to reach and are on site within minutes. They have everything needed in the apartment required for a comfortable stay. This apartment building is very within 100 meters from the shore where the sun voyager statue is situated, a 1011 is also closely for groceries, the downtown is just up the street. I highly recommend and will go back to this place when i visit again.

"Nice boutique hotel in good location"
Good hotel for the price. Great location. Nice staff. Great cleaning crew. Great to have a kitchen in a hotel room. Wifi was strong and great. Very clean. Very safe. Now the bad: The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. I chose a king, I was given a queen. Next door there are 2 bars (Vegamot and Olstofan) that turn into clubs on Friday, Saturday and Wednesday nights. Icelanders are loud. They sometimes stayed up till 4am. If this bothers you, change your room. So loud. There are no laundry options. The laundry service they offer is ridiculous expensive. I spent $30 to do 2 loads of laundry at a nearby cafe (laundromat cafe) and the dryer didn't dry. Not including the drinks I had to buy while watching my loads. Probably spent $60 for 4 days of laundry. I wish this place had a laundry option. The cable tv programming was pathetic. Good thing I brought my roku.

"Excellent hotel near the centre"
Great hotel near the centre. About a 10 minutes walk, however, near the hotel are at least 2 cafes, the very popular Hamburgerfabrikkan and the little house of the Reykjavik Summit. It is also a very short walk to the promenade that leads to the opera. There is also a great buffet and found the room of a convenient size, and it was very-well cleaned.

"Very convenient to the main shopping/eating street"
This was my third time staying at this location. The first two were under former ownership, and a different name, and that version was certainly accepable, but the new management and property name are as a brand new hotel. Things have been totally updated and more thoughtfully appointed, and there is 24/7 staff covering the desk now. I stayed in a different place all together last fall, but wanted to give this familiar, better location a try this time, and know it will be my first choice in lodging in Reykjavík from now on.

Alftanes is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Alftanes, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Alftanes hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
