Tampa may not have one big claim to fame, but it does have lots of options. Art? Check. Theme parks? Yep. Beaches? Just a short drive away. Throw in historical neighborhoods, a burgeoning food scene and a roster of national sports teams, and you've got yourself a destination.
If you're looking for culture, check out the Tampa Museum of Art and the dazzling Moorish architecture of the Henry Plant Museum — a work of art in itself. Or see a film at the spectacular Tampa Theatre, an opulent movie palace from 1926. Families will find plenty of kid-centric attractions, including the Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo and Glazer Children's Museum. Older kids will love the adrenaline-fueled fun at Busch Gardens and Adventure Island.
Tampa's dining scene is anchored by South Tampa's SoHo area (around South Howard Avenue) but you can find outstanding up-and-comers in Seminole Heights. The best neighborhood to explore? Hands-down it's Tampa's Latin Quarter, Ybor City, where you'll find Cuban food, hand-rolled cigars and a heavy concentration of historic charm.
