"Animal Lovers Dream!"
We saw almost as much wildlife on our hotel balcony as we did in the National Park! In fact, we could hear the Howler Monkeys in the National Park and our guide said they were close, but we never got a sighting of one, but that same afternoon, we heard one from our hotel room and went outside and there was a Howler on a tree just 25' from our balcony! We also saw scarlet macaws, falcons, iguanas, various butterflies and birds, Capuchin, Howler, and Squirrel monkeys from our balcony. Staff & Spa were both incredible!

"Beautiful hotel in the rain forest by the beach"
We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is set in the rain forest and has a steep hike down to the beach. They provide a drive most of the way down and back up via a golf cart, but you have to coordinate with the cart driver for the time you want to leave the beach. The facilities are modern and the Ocean Club room we stayed in was nice. The room has on the lower level of the Ocean Club, though, and we could hear doors closing, bathroom sliding doors moving, and other loud noises from the rooms around us that woke us up during the night. It was also a very steep, slippery walk downhill to the hill; not particularly safe. There was also construction going on around the hotel grounds that did not allow for sleeping in late, but those renovations could be happening anywhere you stay. The restaurant was quite nice, but pricey. The included breakfasts were good. The private access beach was nice. The hotel staff was extremely courteous. I would definitely recommend this hotel, but would make sure I'm not on the lower level of the Ocean Club again.

Hotel Manuel Antonio

Final Calle Manuel Antonio, Manuel Antonio - Map
The location is perfect since it's right on the beach and a short walk to the park. Staff was helpful, room was clean, and we enjoyed our stay. I'd recommend a top floor for the view and less bugs on the porch. There's a nice little restaurant next to the hotel that wasn't too pricey and had some of the better food of all the restaurants we tried in the area. The buses stop right in front of the hotel. There's a Tracopa bus that you can catch in San Jose that will take you directly to the bus stop in front of the hotel. It's $8 a person and takes about 3.5 hours to get there but it's cheaper than a taxi or shuttle. The local buses will also take you to Quepos. You pay on the bus and it's 310 colones.

"Great start to our trip!"
When we saw monkeys as we were walking into the hotel to check in I knew this was going to be an excellent choice. La Mariposa is fantastic. The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff were amazing. Service at the restaurant and bar were both excellent as was the food. Service was quick and attentive, but we were never rushed. Byron at the front desk, who never seemed to go home, was so friendly and helpful our entire stay. The property has a main building and a few smaller buildings. We had room 59 which was ocean view in one of the smaller buildings. The location was very quiet and the room, which was recently renovated, was decorated beautifully. They appear to be renovating some of the other rooms but nothing that was ever noisy or bothersome. La Mariposa is at the highest point in Manuel Antonio and the views are breathtaking. We only stayed 3 nights and wished it could've been longer. If we are ever in Manuel Antonio again we will definitely stay here.

"Beautiful view!"
My family of four (two daughters in college), my husband and I stayed for five nights in July. The view was so gorgeous from our room in the adults only section. We overlooked the pool and right out to the beaches. We saw a beautiful sunset and had a capuchin monkey on our balcony one morning! Do not leave any clothes, shoes, on your balcony - they are at risk of being stolen! We saw a toucan one morning as well as squirrel monkeys on the property; we actually saw more wildlife on the property than in Manual Antonio national park. We had some good swims in the warm pool and used our kitchenette - refrigerator and stove to make breakfast and lunch every day, and then we went out for dinner. It was very practical and convenient. The walk to the beach is downhill for 10-15 minutes not on a sidewalk, next to a busy road. I didn't figure the timing of the public bus going down, but going up the hill, it was easy to catch the public bus down by the beach for less than a dollar and ask them to stop at Costa Verde. The only reason I gave fours was due to the fact that the beds have very hard mattresses, and in fact my shoulder was sore after sleeping on it for five nights. Overall - loved this hotel!!!!

Portalon is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Portalon, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Portalon hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
