4 days into my stay a man used a key card and entered my room at 7pm while I was laying in bed. I screamed. He said sorry and left. I called the desk to see if they'd given a new guest a key to my room. The man said IT WAS ME. I asked WHY DID YOU COME IN MY ROOM!!!??? No knock, no open door a little, full on opened door and stepped into my room!! He said he was checking on a complaint. I said and you got the wrong room?? He hung up!. Dude, you don't just walk into anyone's room! He said he's not even an employee , he works elsewhere for the owner. My sister and niece went to the office and he gave a different story saying rooms say booked but they're not. I was half way thru my stay!!! The next morning I spoke with a woman in the office wanting the owners # and compensated. She emailed him. I'd hoped to discuss this with him and resolve but I guess he wants to ignore it. So here we are. I've stayed at the Royal Inn for 11 years and always loved it. I felt SAFE. THIS incident, this strange man walking into my room in the evening with 3 women in it was terrifying! NOT SAFE! It was the first time all these years, after the incident, that I realized there's no bar latch lock on the door. That would've prevented the strange man with the Master key from stepping in my room and terrifying us! So disturbing and violating of my safe space.

The best thing about this place was it was right on the beach but that's it. The unit was dirty there was a bug in the bed when we pulled the sheets back, the comforter had a cover over it but the edge of the comforter was dirty, the dish towel was folded nice and cute on the counter when i opened it to go use it there was what looked liked dried spaghetti sauce, the pull out couch was broke so we ended up buying air mattress but of course we did not see this until bed time when the office was closed, the floors were dirty even after I mopped twice and the bath towels had holes and were old and worn. The manager did offer us to move but we had 6 people and a lot of stuff there was no way we were moving it all again. Last thing the AC took about 3 days to get to 72 and this was probably because one of the sliding glass doors was opened behind the curtains that is not a door you go in and out of so it was not noticed for a few days.

We have never stayed at Capt Hirams before but always wanted to and it did not disappoint. The staff was helpful. The location can't be beat. The proximity to water, restaurants (multiple up and down the river) was perfect. I stayed over 4th of July with my teen son and it was a great family friendly option. The pool is small but very clean. Our room hadn't been vacuumed or our side tables cleaned when we arrived but the staff took care of it right away the next morning. Be aware, if you are flying in late, let them know or they do close out your reservation as a no show. We called and the staff explained and were extremely helpful throughout our stay. I will be staying here again!
