Got kicked out of the hotel after arriving back from a meal and a couple of drinks went back to hotel to finish our night to listen to the live singer, my partner and I wasn’t drunk but the manager had refused to serve my partner drinks and said we’ve had enough when I went over to speak to him he would not discuss the situation with me and instead of talking to me about it and give me a proper reason why you wouldn’t save any drinks to us he called the police. when they arrived five minutes later, feed police vans, two police cars and 15 offices. after talking to them all night and calmly they didn’t seem there was a problem show me went back to our room. The officers went. The manager had only gone into our room when we were out and locked the bathroom door so we could not use the facilities in our room I went back down to reception and told them the bathroom door was locked for some reason and we could not go into bathroom they called the police again then us to leave couldn’t get my car cause I’ve been drinking so we went off to find another hotel for the night which we got one which is 10 times better than the one we got kicked out of. I want a complete refund. cause we didn’t end up staying the night.

The outside of the hotel was impressive, and in its day would have been an outstanding place to stay. But that day wasn't in September 2025. Like any old establishment that looks good from the outside on the inside it has grown tired and weary looking. Such a big building and some 150 rooms to offer. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the lift near the reception area was broken, and had been broken for a number of days. The staff maintenance lift was the alternative. At least it worked. The long corridor on the second floor leading to the allocated bedroom, was a mishmash of skirting board badly joined together with liberal dollops of polyfiller between the joints. A skilled job it was not. I can only assume the colour of the corridor walls was chosen on price, or by somebody who really shouldn't have been allowed to use that green by the company’s design office. Make sure you are not allocated a bedroom with the whine of the heating (or hot water) system coming from below in an inner courtyard of the hotel. A closed window only muffled the unpleasant frequency, at least it ended around midnight. The bad news was that it fired up again around six in the morning, with an evermore annoying whine, well I suppose everyone was glad of the hot water for a shower. If you are a six-hour sleeper, the timings would work fine. Food was plentiful, both for the evening meal and breakfast. Though the coffee from the machine was poor. Stay there again?... never say never...

The staff could not have been more friendly. The only criticism was the lack of bar staff on the Saturday evening. The queue to be served was at least 12 people long.

we chose Prince of Wales as we had stayed several times before, so we were under no illusions, It's a Victorian Hotel, It has Good Points & Bad Points, Food is of a Adequate standard, not Gourmet but wholesome ! Breakfast plenty food and choice, Bedrooms are Newly Decorated (compared to last time we stayed), Bed, Mattress past its use by date, old metal springs, but no bounce left in it , it was like laying on a hard slab, needs changing, rest of bedroom very spacious, and clean , Hotel interior has been spruced up without losing its charm, Would we stay again YES, Good value for the price, One Niggle only card payment at Bar ??? Cash is King !!

Warm welcome. Room at back of hotel. Woken at 6 by a very loud whirring noise which we could only assume was the kitchen extractor fan. Coming back to the room in the evening, the room was full of food smells. There was a missing light bulb in the bathroom which made it very dim. Also the metal grid part of the plug hole was missing, so it was just a hole. These two faults were reported to reception, so it would be interesting to know if they’ve been rectified since we left. I would have thought the cleaner would have noticed these faults and reported them! There was no internet access in the bedroom, and indeed even in the hotel reception area. Also struggled to get a phone signal. As soon as we got onto Lord Street it seemed fine. Wouldn’t stay here again.

We were given the room furthest away from reception. Up in the lift and loads of stairs and heavy doors,terrible Bed not comfortable and small, mattress needs replacing Room too hot No loo brush Dangerous stairs beside fire doors Didn't know about car parking fees. Terrible. No ventilation in bathroom. We have stayed here many times, but will not be returning

Tired Hotel but Friendly Service

Room 319 on the 3rd floor had a limited view over the roof tops. Red hot and the windows would only open a bit due to safety chains on them. Bed was too hard for me, so i slept poorly. The Shower over the bath was nice and hot. Floor creaked due to age and carpets, whilst clean, look dirty due to their age. Parking was ok but charged at £6.00 overnight. Location of the hotel is great. Good bars and restaurants all within a 10 minute walk. Ate at an Italian called Volare, which was 10 mins up Lord Street.
