An unexpected pleasure in an unexpectedly (for me) appealing small city. The Grove staff were wonderful, my room was perfect, and the hotel is literally at the center of the city which is easily navigated in any case. The valet service was especially good, the hotel restaurant solid, the exercise facilities and pool first-rate, especially for an older hotel. And it is close to a number of good restaurants, bookstores, and even a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's for those who want to eat for themselves. The only drawback (other than the overall outside aesthetics of the hotel which, alas, are ghastly) was the laundry service, not run by the hotel, which turned my white clothes light blue, but the hotel staff compensated generously for this. Highest recommendation.

Love the old building and look of the rooms. Really the only complaints we had may be out of your control... 1) Had to walk down the street to another hotel for breakfast. 2) Parking was limited and tight.
Like I said may not be in your control. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

For the last night of our epic 11 day, 5 state road trip, we wanted something special: The Marcus Whitnan did not disappoint. It is a beautiful hotel that is right out of The Great Gatsby and it is pet friendly. We HIGHLY recommend it!!

This is a beautifully restored hotel and just sitting in the lobby is a great experience. My room was on the third floor and was somewhat cramped and only had one smaller window. I would definitely stay at the hotel again, but will request a room on a higher floor.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Shilo Inn. Our room with 2 queen beds was very spacious. lots of counter space. Even had a fridge, microwave and sink. The pool was nice and available 24 hours. The breakfast was an excellent all you can eat buffet.
The only cons about our stay- We had booked two rooms, my parents were going to share with some of my kids. The rooms were not next to each other. They weren't far apart, but we would have preferred to be next to each other. And the hot tub was more a warm tub with jets. The pool was kinda cold, but a good size albeit pretty deep all around. My littler kids couldn't touch bottom and wanted to play in the "hot tub" which the other people didn't like as much. My kids enjoyed it though.
And the rooms didn't cool very well. We ended up just opening a window and we needed more pillows. But they were very quick and nice to accommodate us with the extra pillows even at 11:30 at night.
Overall we were pleased with our stay.
