The hotel itself is very nice, the staff was great. The restaurant downstairs is very, very good (we shared multiple appetizers and ordered room service later in the week.) The location is a bit out of the way, but it's certainly walkable to the harbor/palace (otherwise the taxi drivers get very "creative" with their routes, to the tune of 80-90 kuna.) Any request we had was attended to almost immediately as well.

This is one of Europe's few remaining Grand Hotels retaining more than an air of its history, famous guests and excellent staff throughout. You won't find a nespresso coffee machine in your room (note to management - please install!) and there are some tired elements but overall you will find an impressive, charming hotel where the staff are proud to cater for your needs at all hours of day and night. For architecture junkies, the building itself is magnificent and has resisted many of the design led but ultimately soul-less refurbishments that so many of the chain hotels have installed. The hotel is indeed a perfect metaphor for Zagreb itself.
